The First Amendment standards I have taught in my classes for years may be under attack.

Whether you approve or disapprove of abortion, the government should not prohibit media organizations from producing news materials dealing with any topic. This is commonly referred to as censorship. But, it is happening in the United States.

Recently Federal Judge William Orrick, who helped open a Planned Parenthood Clinic and has an activist wife promoting Planned Parenthood, has prohibited release of new videos in violation of the First Amendment.

The controversial video shows Planned Parenthood discussing the sale of baby parts. The only way this video could be censored is if the video were shot during a private conversation in a private place. It was shot at a conference meeting room filled with people (IE., It cannot be invasion of privacy).

Prior restraint to publishing news is the standard for dictatorships and now the United States. American journalism is based on the idea that government cannot prohibit individuals from releasing videos without government approval,

Journalists are held accountable through defamation laws. Though a journalist can publish anything they wish, they may be fined for ?Intentionally hurting the reputation of another person/organization with false information?.

Another activist judge!

Unfortunately, it's going yo the Ninth. Orrick should have recused himself, and that is now before the Ninth.

OrdinaryGuy --- 6 years ago -

I wouldn't worry. The ninth circuit usually gets overturned.

This nonsense again?

Stop giving that hack organization "Center For Medical Progress" any attention. Seriously, they rot your brain and this issue has already been debunked, with their doctored videos.

Butterbean --- 6 years ago -
