Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 288,000, and the unemployment rate fell by 0.4 percentage point to 6.3 percent in April. Employment gains were widespread.

Ending UI benefits, cutting SNAP and other basic safety net programs, increased educational costs and opposition to the ACA can all be seen as barriers to entry. Upward mobility has always been an insiders game. This game is set up politically to keep outsiders out. Education is THE key and it's exclusive.

The government has created a nonprofit support structure for businesses, rather than businesses being created to benefit Americans. They are holding 100's of billions for the sake of the next 3 months of market retunrs rather than the next 5 years and investing in people, etc.

Its not just this POTUS, its the way its calculated thats flawed.

Both of you are correct. You want to be able to compare consistent numbers between periods but also know the "holes" in the calculation.

They do publish additional information such as the labor force participation rate which fell and accounts for some of the reduction in the unemployment rate.


The overall number was a positive sign. 

The U6 calcualtes U3 (unemployed) plus the underemployed, plus the discouraged and not looking, plus the looking but can't collect unemployment, plus the long-term, chronic unemployed.
The number has been dropping since a high of near 18% in late 2008. This means it's going the right direction.

Some 806,000 people dropped out of the labor force, according to Labor Department figures. 806,000 (loss) - 288,000 (gain) = 518,000 net loss.
