surprise surprise

Nadya "Octomom" Suleman is in danger of losing her 14 children after police paid a visit to her La Habra, California home on Tuesday night after her hairstylist visited her home to do her hair, found deplorable living conditions, and filed a complaint. Not only were the youngest of her brood, the 3-year-old octuplets, dirty and walking around barefoot in only T-shirts, but they were being forced to urinate and defecate in training potties set up in the backyard because the house's plumbing was not working, according to the stylist named Stephanie (who will not release her last name). Stephanie also took photographs, which have been obtained by TMZ, and claims that while she was giving Suleman a Brazilian blowout and haircut on April 18, the children were locked in a bedroom. In one photo Stephanie took, the mother-of-14 is shown happily flaunting her new 'do — for which she paid $520 (that includes two previous haircuts and $80 worth of product), despite the fact she's on welfare — while behind her a chair is wedged underneath a doorknob, as if it to keep the occupants inside.

Stephanie went to police to report the squalor she witnessed, which she says was difficult for her because she's a longtime friend of Suleman's, but she feels so terribly for the children. "The kids are in desperate need of help, and I tried to help and she's not open to anyone helping her," she told TMZ as she left the El Habra police station. "She thinks everything is fine with the kids, and it's not." When asked by the cameraman what exactly was wrong, she continued, "The kids don't wear clothes. I went over there yesterday and they're not wearing any pants. And they're outside in the freezing cold, it was 60 degrees, and they're shivering and she wouldn't let them come inside until they finished eating their dinner. It's just horrible."

One photo shows Suleman's kids dirty and in only t-shirts, as graffiti covers the backyard fence. (TMZ.com)

In other photos Stephanie took inside the Suleman home — which has been desecrated with spray-painted graffiti, presumably by her older children — one room has tiny mattresses on the floor with no sheets or blankets, as well as two cribs. The kids, says Stephanie, "are sleeping on the floor. I offered her bunk beds. I said, 'We have bunk beds, you can take them.' She said, 'No, no I don't want them. We're ok right now. Everything's fine.' It's not fine! It's depressing, I want to cry."

On Tuesday night, three reps from Child Protective Services along with a police officer went to the Suleman home to investigate Stephanie's claims. In a video, children can be heard as the group repeatedly bangs on the front door until Suleman, 36, finally lets them in. Before the video cuts off, she can be heard telling them, "Excuse the graffiti." After an hour-and-a-half, CPS left after determining the children were not in immediate danger, but a spokesperson did tell TMZ the investigation is ongoing and there will be a follow-up visit to the Suleman home.

"I love those kids, but they're being neglected completely," says Stephanie. "[Suleman] needs help, she can't do this by herself. There's too many kids and they're not getting the help that they need. They're not getting attention, they're not even wearing clothes. The boys have girls' clothes on! I go over there and cut the kids' hair for free because you can't tell which ones are boys and which ones are girls, they all look the same!"

Ditto!!!!!

Nope

Semper --- 13 years ago -

Such a darn narcissist. How the heck did graffiti get all over the house? The older ones aren't old enough to be tagging the house like that. How did they even get the spray paint? Cannot believe that CPS thought those kids were ok. Our CPS took those kids away for living in a bus in Splendora for living in squalor.

Ugh.

Well, she was recently on Dr. Drew and he had someone offer to give her a free service where another adult would come and look after her kids all day every day with her there. She wanted no part of it, unless allowed to interview. That is kind of understandable, but she probably just turned her nose up at it after the show, at least that is what it seems.

She said that her oldest child, who is Autistic, was the one who spray painted the house.

I was pretty weirded out by a comment she made on the show. She said her kids are very disciplined. I don't know, it just came out sounding really, really creepy.

I think she probably needs a mental health evaluation.

I think she needs a mental health intervention.

She's nuts, and the kids will suffer for it. No sympathy from me for her, only them.

So not having working plumbing with 14 kids is ok????

Jen --- 13 years ago -

Her hair stylist was her friend and charging her $500 something dollars? Well anyway...this OctoMom is trash at its finest

Oh, remember it's California...and she came out to the house to style her..What I don't get is WHO thinks about Brazilian Blowjobs (haha) and hair "products" when you have no plumbing???

Oh, God, what a mess...

Girls got to look nice to get a job to get off food stamps.

Jen --- 13 years ago -

Ya usually you need water to do hair, huh? No head wash or washing of her supplies I guess?

Carla --- 13 years ago -

I read that on another news site and TMZ definitely made it more sensational.

First the graffiti, all of my girls went through a draw-on-everything-except paper stage. I can't imagine what it would be like with 14 kids.

The story I read said that the stylist thought it was horrible that there was only one bathroom, not that the plumbing didn't work. Only having one bathroom isn't child abuse.

If they are still potty training, that is where they go . . . in the potty training toilets. And if they are potty training, who keeps their toddler fully dressed if they are at home?

Do I think she should be spending $500 on her hair while she's on welfare? No.

Do I think she's the greatest mom? No.

But this sensationalizing of the situation is irresponsible.

What this is is her friend making money off of selling her story and pictures.

FluffyPenguin --- 13 years ago -

The graffiti doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I can understand the potties outside if the plumbing doesn't work.

The fact that she spent that much on getting her hair done really pisses me off. She could have spent that on food, clothes, fixing the crap in her house. What a superficial witch.

The half nakedness doesn't bother me. My kid either ran around in a diaper at home during the warm months, or in a shirt. Esp during potty training.

Her locking her kids in a room or whatever makes me mad. They are not pets, toys or whatever retarded crap she's thinking they are. Those children are not capable of taking care of themselves and the should not be unsupervised at all.

Does she deserve to get her children taken away? No, not really I don't think it's at that point. Only time will tell though. But she most certainly needs to take a parenting class, and have DHS monitor her, and the children for the next year or more.

WineandCheese --- 13 years ago -

Just my opinion but that woman has a few screw loose and has no business having custody with those kids. It's just wrong. They really need to be in a better environment and she needs to be in a nut house. Not at all saying I am perfect but she is just to far out there!!!

OctoMom is trash at its finest
Agreed.

doglady --- 13 years ago -

She is pure trash and her children, unfortunately, will be just like her. If she would just take some of the help that has been offered, it would be such a blessing for those poor, neglected children! Very sad situation for them:(

thankfulformyfour --- 13 years ago -

I work in the church nursery and get overwhelmed when I have more than 5 by myself (and then I get a helper). I can't imagine having 14 day in and day out. Mercy.

marthas attic (Mod) --- 13 years ago -

its one thing to have kids draw on a wall but who gave them spray paint? Also if you notice some of the "art" is pretty high..are they standing on ladders also? And much of the wall art does not look like something a young child your do. There is no excuse if she is on welfare she should be spending money on herself like that nor is there ANY excuse to have a chair on the door like that!

Semper --- 13 years ago -

Well said Martha. That was my line of thinking with respect to the graffiti. It's not crayon artwork by toddlers.

This morning's news reported that a hair salon is going to pay by the $500+ she spent on the hair and will be providing her with free hair services AND will provide a babysitter during those times when Octo goes in for her appointments. They were also going to offer to have the plumbing issues repaired as well.

I'm sure the hair salon has a vested interest in getting involved with her but it's a shame that irresponsible behavior/parenting gets rewarded. She's not deserving of this type of treatment. A good mother doesn't lock her brood in a room. What if Octo had slipped and fallen, cracked her head on the floor, become unconscious or maybe died. All while her children are locked in a room. Then there's the issue with her autistic child. What services are being provided to help this kid? I can't imagine that Octo's home would be the best place for a child that more than likely has sensory and socialization issues. It just seems like an asylum rather than a home.

kwgraniteguy --- 13 years ago -

I remember seing pics of her foeclosed home, trashed was an understatement. Same issues there, paint everywhere and broken plumbing. I just can not fathom living in those conditions, recieving aid and spending 500 bones on hair. She needs a complete reality check.
