Not sure where she's getting her data, but Nancy Pelosi is claiming that 98% of ALL catholic women use some type of contraceptive.

Really? 98%?

During a weekly briefing on congressional issues, House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) made a startling claim about Catholic women's usage of birth control, stating that "98 Percent of Catholic women"..."Use Birth Control"

Crazy Nancy speaks again.

It remains unclear at this moment where exactly the Minority Leader is obtaining her statistics.

Nancy Pelosi:

"98 percent of Catholic women, I am told by all of you, use birth control to determine the size and timing of their families. So again its a women's health issue."

justforfun1 --- 2 years ago -

She also opened her mouth when gas went up a little under Bush, saying he wasn't doing anything about it because he was helping his oil buddies make money. Is the same thing happening with Obama?

truthmiser --- 2 years ago -

Nancy Pelosi is claiming that 98% of ALL catholic women use some type of contraceptive

If that were true, wacko pelosi wouldn't be here among us mortals to make such an idiotic out-right fabricate lie of a statement. Sometimes I believe that retro-active abortions should be legal and applicable to wacko leftist libs!

Pat Barry --- 2 years ago -

"Some 98 percent of sexually active Catholic women have used contraceptive methods banned by the church, research published on Wednesday showed.

A new report from the Guttmacher Institute, the nonprofit sexual health research organization, shows that only 2 percent of Catholic women, even those who regularly attend church, rely on natural family planning.

The latest data shows practices of Catholic women are in line with women of other religious affiliations and adult American women in general."

If you count the "rhythm method" it might be 100%. LMAO

Souperman --- 2 years ago -

The fact that she actually used this data and used it in public in front of cameras and recorders is just mind blowing.

Is she actually this stupid?

So, using simple math......... according to Pelosi, only 2% of Catholic women are NOT using some type of contraceptive. Who are these 2%?

I seriously doubt the entire 2 percent encompasses all of these catholic women over the age of 60 who no longer need to use ANY type of contraceptive. Or how about nuns?

It truly is one of the most idiotic statements made by an elected person in a very long time.

Hook, line and sinker, textualhealing.

Facts just don't matter to the deluded.

Facts just don't matter to the deluded.

It's amazing how they seem to do that to you.

Are you seriously buying into that data?

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 2 years ago -

I have no data but my own personal friends..and every Catholic woman I know is using birth control. My best friend is devoutly Catholic and even she used BC..and her husband had a vasectomy after #4. And that's BC too.

I think what Pelosi said was an unsubstantiated WAG for the sake of trying to make an impact, but I do believe that Catholic women are in line using BC like most other women are. The ones I know just don't take the Churches stance on that issue for their own.

Hilarious. I think your issue is with this organiztion, the Guttmacher Institute.

Post on their site. Oh that's right, it's not about facts.

planemom --- 2 years ago -

It's a made up issue. If the media is discussing this they don't need to look at other issues. The use of birth control is up, births are down, abortions are down and the overall birth rate the US is down.

Souperman --- 2 years ago -

I'm sure it would be, but I'm commenting on the words that came from Nancy Pelosi's mouth.

What's hilarious is that you eat this up. Do you really believe that 98% of ALL Catholic women use some type of contraceptive?

Souperman --- 2 years ago -

I don't doubt that Catholic women use contraceptive methods at a very high rate. But 98%? Seems a bit of an exaggeration.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 2 years ago -

I agree, I do doubt it's that high, I think she embellished. LOL. But the right is holding her feet to the fire...

planemom --- 2 years ago -

In 2006–2008, about 93% had ever had a partner use the male condom; 82% of women had used the oral contraceptive pill; and 59% had had a partner who used withdrawal. About 1 in 5 women had used the 3-month

Here is the CDC report. The quote is on page 13. I'm bored.

In my personal survey 100% do.

Of course their daddy's would die if they knew what their pious daughters do, with a brutha.

Souperman --- 2 years ago -

As they should.

I did.

Pat Barry --- 2 years ago -

It's about my survey, not about you. Not difficult.

Souperman --- 2 years ago -

It's also about the words that came from Pelosi's mouth also. Not difficult.

Pat Barry --- 2 years ago -

Words which are true.

Souperman --- 2 years ago -

If you say so........

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 2 years ago -

Words which are true.

They don't even know where she got her info, and you know it's true?

It's no big deal. Lots of Catholic women use birth control. Does it really matter if it's 98% or 69%??

ETA: But maybe she should try releasing accurate info..

Pat Barry --- 2 years ago -

If she released info backed by the study, why exactly is it inaccurate?

Souperman --- 2 years ago -

Some just have no clue that they're being strung along.

Pat Barry --- 2 years ago -

Face it. You had no clue there were actual data to back her up.
Keep trying.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 2 years ago -

Where the heck is said 'data'?? Pass it along please cuz I've been reading, and watched the vid, still don't see any real data.

Where's the study??

Pat Barry --- 2 years ago -

The Guttmacher Institute study I referred to.

Others studies suggest similar results.

Geesh.

Souperman --- 2 years ago -

A little more digging reveals a lot.

The Guttmacher Institute, an independent, nonprofit, tax-exempt organization with offices in New York and Washington, D.C., was established in 1968 to provide research, policy analysis and education in the fields of reproductive health, reproductive rights and population. It was named to honor a distinguished obstetrician-gynecologist, author and leader in reproductive rights. While Alan F. Guttmacher was president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and a leader in the International Planned Parenthood Federation in the 1960s and early 1970s, he saw the need for the institution that now bears his name, and he nurtured its development.

TexasOma --- 2 years ago -

Guttmacher Institute

From Wiki:

The Guttmacher Institute is a non-profit organization which works to advance reproductive health including abortion rights. The institute operates in the United States and globally "through an interrelated program of social science research, policy analysis and public education."[1][2] According to their mission statement, this program aims to "generate new ideas, encourage enlightened public debate, promote sound policy and program development and, ultimately, inform individual decision making."[1]

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 2 years ago -

So, you wanna believe that. You're entitled. But I don't, and I especially don't based on an org that spawned out of Planned Parenthood and just might have ulterior motives in those areas.

Look, I don't care what women use or why they use it. But to suggest the rates are that high with Catholic women I tend not to believe.

Eh.

Pat Barry --- 2 years ago -

Utter desperation.

AngieKaye --- 2 years ago -

hmmmm Read the title of this but still wondering where she found a brain.... didn't think she ever had one!

Souperman --- 2 years ago -

Utter desperation.

You are looking a bit desperate.
