I just wanted to let everyone know on ku what happened last week: The Teddy Bear "Stuffin" Shack is doing daycare parties which we charge $4.99 per animal. We had a date with Fitness and Fun in Kingwood. We noticed that when we came in to do the party they were charging the kids $10.00. In other words they are making a huge profit. The other day care centers put this in their budget and don't charge the parents. I, the owner just wanted everyone to be informed of this.... How could any business that is child centered take advantage of the children and parents??

Maybe they were having pizza that day also?

Or maybe they have to have more staff in place during field trips.

and keep in mind, unless the children all walked there, there had to be a bus involved.....with gas in it. and a driver. i know that fitness and fun has their own bus, but those things still cost money. i don't think the mark up is that bad or taking advantage, honestly......just the cost of an 'extra' at daycare for the summer. and, that is REALLY cool that the stuffin shack offers those daycare parties.....i bet the kiddos had fun! :)

there had to be a bus involved.....with gas in it. and a driver. When I read it, it sounded to me that the stuffin shack came to the day care center, so it doesn't sound like transportation was involved. Maybe I read it wrong, but she said "We noticed that when we came in to do the party they were charging the kids $10.00." However, I agree that other costs may be involved in providing special activities that are not apparent. On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if the day care was profiting from this activity by charging the parents a higher fee. That kind of thing happens all the time when dealing with a "middleman" and while I agree that it would be nice if they passed on the real costs to the parents, it is a business and they are free to set a different price than what they are actually incurring.

I have to say I am a bit irritated with this. My dd just started there. I do also see the point of paying more when a middleman is involved too. I prepaid for all of her fieldtrips in advance, $150 for all summer.
