Hope --- 16 years ago -

I want one too! I think I want a small one. What should I get?

Lilteapot --- 16 years ago -

Dont do it.....lol Ya cant park it in ur driveway Yeah I know, sucks huh? Maybe a smaller one would fit in the garage? not the height though. :(

JDB2 --- 16 years ago -

Dont do it.....lol Ya cant park it in ur driveway! lol I agree....lol

karenact --- 16 years ago -

ha we were just talking about getting a pop up down the road!

lotsmore --- 16 years ago -

I would have to say the most important thing I looked at was the sleeping arrangements. I did not want to have to make my table into a bed.And the restroom. This was important also. I did not want to have to walk through a trailer full of teenage kidos to get there.

Sue --- 16 years ago -

Check out RV's in Elkhart, Indiana which is the capital of RV's made.

ladybeachbum --- 16 years ago -

I am going to be selling an 05 very gently used trailer in a few weeks. I bought it for repairs at the beach. I can't remember the brand but it is a higher end brand. It has a queen bedroom, the bathroom by it, a sofabed, the table makes a bed however I have not used either, and has two chairs. Nice kitchen area and some pretty good storage. I may keep it and put it on a rental program, but I am thinking not. I think it retails for around $18k, but I will probably sell around $14-15k. It was like new when I got it and if dh hasn't done anything to it, still should be.

If I were to get one that you had to pull, do I need a truck to pull it?

Fin and Feather --- 16 years ago -

Yes, truck or large suv, unless itÂ’s a small popup

Sandyr9111 --- 16 years ago -

If I were to get one that you had to pull, do I need a truck to pull it? Yes its a good idea unless u want a tuna can. You can get small bumper pull trailers so u dont have to get a BIG truck for a 5th wheel just a regular truck.

Sandyr9111 --- 16 years ago -

There is alot to know about them. You have to check them close if you are buying used. All the drain tanks are made of fiberglass normally and u need to make sure they are not leaking. Check the AC, Stove and hot water heater. The hot water heaters are expensive to replace because they are smaller. You need to check the roof for leaks, check the windows for leaks. Check EVERYTHING for leaks....lol My folks have owned several and we have had a couple.

We have a pop-up that is nice...has full size bed on one end, queen size on the other end, table folds down to full size bed, and futan type couch folds into an extra long twin. We will be selling it early spring if someone is interested. I am not sure of the make/model and hubby just left to go out of town. If interested, send me a PM and I can get back to you this weekend.

Only RV show of the year in Houston this weekend at Reliant. Good place to get an education.

zapper007 --- 16 years ago -

Now, let's see, at $59/night a $14K camper yields 237.288136 nights of 'gas free' camping. At 3 miles per gallon, you can either stay in some prety fancy digs - or live like gypsies for a very long time... Oh yeah, don't forget rental of an RV space while traveling, and that is not cheap... Plus the new truck, and rapid depreciation of the unit in a contracting market...

Lilteapot --- 16 years ago -

Right now, I am at the "investigation" stage...I do need an education. lol

msu2u --- 16 years ago -

We have a 35' one that we pull. It's lightweight, so doesn't use as much gas as heavier models. I did have to have a special breaking device installed in my vehicle to make stopping safer....think it was about a $900 investment.

*maryc --- 16 years ago -

RV show actually starts today at Reliant.

duflochy --- 16 years ago -

shucks.....she can just go with me.....

duflochy --- 16 years ago -

Allboys --- 16 years ago -

We are going to the show this weekend to see what we can learn

duflochy --- 16 years ago -

I could give classes......best camper we ever had was an old school bus......cheep

I Kissed Frogs --- 16 years ago -

We just bought one last week. If you get electric brakes, the weight distribution hitch and the sway bars plan on spending around an additional $600.00. And then around another $350 - $400 for all of the stuff that goes inside of it unless you can find enough extra things around your house (sheets, towels, dishes, pots/pans, etc). And tax on them is 6.25% plus title fees and tag fees. I hadn't really assigned a number to those extra expenses when I set our maximum pay amount and went over budget on one.

MomToMany --- 16 years ago -

We have a 34' Bounder motorhome. We love it. The gas does add up it gets 7 miles to the gal. It's nice just to have all your stuff right there. Ours sleeps 6 great. Look at PPL website. That is where we bought ours. Has lots of info on there too.

msu2u --- 16 years ago -

And then around another $350 - $400 for all of the stuff that goes inside of it unless you can find enough extra things around your house (sheets, towels, dishes, pots/pans, etc). Yep! It's sooo much easier to have all that stuff already inside, so you don't have to pack & unpack...just hop in w/your clothes/food! I keep a coffee pot, toaster, & vacuum cleaner inside, too.

duflochy --- 16 years ago -

we have a 34 ft fleetwood, pace arrow motorhome.....throw a few grocerys in her and go....yea, 7 mpg sucks.....we take about one long trip a year and then use it for weekend getaways the rest of the time......it stays full of gas and staple grocrys all the time so its not a hassle when we have an impulse to travel......some of our best trips are day trips to places close to home.........

MomToMany --- 16 years ago -

yes ma'am we keep ours ready at all times to. Never know when you just get the urge to gooooooooo!!!

duflochy --- 16 years ago -

LTP helped me clean ours up a couple days ago......she really did a good job.........

Lilteapot --- 16 years ago -

I have a honda element, it is prett lightweight so I dont think it could pull anything big. dh has a bmw. A pop up is too small. I love duflochy's, it is sweet, but too big for us, and out of our price range as well. I dont know, just thinking about it for now, would love one, but need to learn about them first. Thanks for all the info, it helps.

planemom --- 16 years ago -

Know your budget and stick to it. Be patient once you decide what you want and what you will pay for it. It took almost a year for DH to find the camper we have. When you are looking ask questions even if you think it's a silly question. The more you ask the more you'll learn. Since campers do depreciate quickly you tend to get more bang for your buck buying used.

Allboys --- 16 years ago -

Unless I'm wrong a honda element only has a 1500lb towing rating. A pop up is about all it is going to be able to manage.

crazymom4216 --- 16 years ago -

Whatever you do....DON'T GO TO DEMONTROND RV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lilteapot --- 16 years ago -

OMG! I found it, the perfect one, and any car can pull it, check it out! The perfect one!

LTP, that is too darn cute! I have never seen one like that before.

Sue --- 16 years ago -

We lived in a nice, new, Terry trailer in our front year for two years after Hurricane Andrew until our home got rebuilt. We thought it would be neat to keep to take trips to the Keys. However, after living in the thing for that long, we changed our minds real fast, sold it, and never had a desire for another.

Perfection --- 16 years ago -

Cute - how much for that one Lilteapot?

ladybeachbum --- 16 years ago -

Zapper, please check your math..Just to make it easy, you can stay 233 nights at $60 a night for a little less than $14,000. For us, the nearest hotel was 23 miles of roads that only a 4 wheel drive could make and the hotel rooms were over $125 a night. Since we are still not finished with the restoration, we are way ahead of the numbers game. Besides, driving to a hotel after being really tired from working your butts off, eating junk food, etc. was no fun. Ours is a Coachmen and I bought it used but I couldn't tell anyone had ever used it. I spent weeks on every site and went to so many RV new sales places. $15k doesn't buy much in the new dept!
