He was from out of town and in the area. I couldn't meet up and he wanted a good lunch. I sent him to Pizziola's. This was a risk on my part as I have never been. But judging by the good reports on KU I thought it was safe. --- I met up with him last night and asked how it was and what he thought. He said his spaghetti with meat sauce made up for him specially by Chef Frank, I presume, because they only offered meat balls was good but not worth $35. I would tend to agree. Spaghetti for $35??

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

Uh oh...$35.00??

Winning --- 11 years ago -

I would think that's an appropriate price for ordering something that isn't on the menu. Several have said it was a little pricey...but very good.

TinktheSprite --- 11 years ago -

I don't think I would pay $35 anywhere for spaghetti! How good could it be??

RedMulch --- 11 years ago -

Nope.......no $35 spaghetti......did he have three glasses of wine? that would splain it...

HARP --- 11 years ago -

Yea, do you know what else he ordered? We were there for lunch yesterday with family and an out of town guest. Even the specials aren't $35.00. My husband and I can go and get an appetizer, a pizza, 2 drinks and dessert and leave for under $35.00.

TinktheSprite --- 11 years ago -

I didn't get the details of his order. His point being, and I trust his opinion, from what one would expect for a simple spaghetti lunch it was not worth $35 for one.

Winning --- 11 years ago -

I'd never pay $35 for spaghetti either...lol. No spaghetti is ever that good.

Tootiefrog --- 11 years ago -

I would imagine he had more than JUST spaghetti and meatballs.

Smoochie and The Bean --- 11 years ago -

Their spaghetti is NOT $35.

We have gone a few times and between myself, my husband, and my two children, our bill is just about $35.

I think your friend must've ordered lots of drinks or something.

Winning --- 11 years ago -

I would imagine he had more than JUST spaghetti and meatballs.

I agree. BUT, he also ordered spaghetti with meat sauce which is apparently NOT on the menu--only meatballs on the menu. They had to make a dish especially for him which is usually pretty costly.

Tootiefrog --- 11 years ago -

I am calling something bogus...just sayin'

TinktheSprite --- 11 years ago -

My friend doesn't drink, this I know. But he tips well. :D

Dotti --- 11 years ago -

I don't think without knowing the full lunch he ordered you shouldn't be trying to bring down a business.

We went with 6 people, all had an entrée, 2 appetizer a pizza and 2 desserts and it was less than 100 for awesome food.

He definitely had to have gotten something that you are not aware of. And this was dinner time not lunch.

TinktheSprite --- 11 years ago -

you shouldn't be trying to bring down a business.

Oh? Was I bringing down a business? I didn't not intend to do that. Not trying to be "bogus" either, only stating what I was told. Obviously, I thought well enough of the place and KU's opinion to recommend it to my out of town friend, sight unseen. What I posted was his opinion. And we all have one, right? I am glad you all enjoy your meals there.

Dotti --- 11 years ago -

Sorry it was lunch time but I still think he had to have gotten something else besides spaghetti to be 35.00.

Dotti --- 11 years ago -

It just seems like every time someone says something bad about a place the next thing you know, everyone starts bashing them and it hurts the business. I would just hate to see that happen. They have great food and a great atmosphere.

Smoochie and The Bean --- 11 years ago -

Maybe they charged him incorrectly and just didn't notice?

TinktheSprite --- 11 years ago -

You guys are funny. All restaurants should have such support from KU. Lucky Pizziola's.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

Maybe there was lobster in it or some super expensive ingredient. That's more than a steak dinner at a good restaurant..

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 11 years ago -

does he have lunch specials, or are the prices all the same?

Perfection --- 11 years ago -

Hopefully he got leftovers for a few days for that price

Good to know the real prices. Forewarned is forearmed.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

Good to know the real prices. Forewarned is forearmed.

That was the exception, not the rule, so not the "real prices". Others have posted it was not overly expensive...I was there as well and it wasn't over priced.

Smoochie and The Bean --- 11 years ago -

Good to know the real prices. Forewarned is forearmed.

When my husband ordered spaghetti, I ordered another meal, plus two kids meals, it was about $35 TOTAL. That was not a correct price for spaghetti.

Dotti --- 11 years ago -

This was my point.

Dotti --- 11 years ago -

I will support any business if they have a good product. Not just Pizziolas.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 11 years ago -

pm him-that should answer all questions-

Tootiefrog --- 11 years ago -

Maybe he accidentally ordered the family special for four...lol

In AbsentiaW --- 11 years ago -

Friday night....two specials of ravioli, mushroom appetizer, four glasses of mediocre recommended wine and desert....without tip $85.00.
Food is great and a bit too rich for me.We got there about six, before the rush so we didn't have to wait.

One suggestion....when they expect a crowd....at least hire one or two other people to help out. The owner running around and around makes you feel rushed to eat, get out and open up the table.

Warren Peace --- 11 years ago -

Their spaghetti is only $10. Even at dinner.

The entrees are so reasonably priced that I've often thought about ordering multiple entrees just to sample more and have plenty left over to take home.

Either Jenny's friend misrepresented the experience or there was a highly unusual mistake.

Tootiefrog --- 11 years ago -

Jenny's friend

now thats funny....

Jeff --- 11 years ago -

I think your friend may have excluded a few glasses of wine and hopefully a tip for great service? We had an excellent meal and service when our family visited. This place is awesome.

Jen --- 11 years ago -

We went once and left saying we would probably not go back...Italianos is just better s the wag around, to us

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 11 years ago -

her friend doesn't drink, so perhaps he got someone else's ticket- it happens-

lawl --- 11 years ago -

Pizziiolas is different. I prefer italianos

TinktheSprite --- 11 years ago -

For those who were curious, my friend told me tonight he had "custom" spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, and a Coke.

lisapisabobisa --- 11 years ago -

What did he ask for in his "custom" spaghetti? I've gotten the family pack from there several times - it feeds more than 4 people and is $35...something very strange here.

TinktheSprite --- 11 years ago -

Lisabobisa, Pizziola's offers Spaghetti with Meatballs only. When my friend asked for Spaghetti with Meat Sauce he was met with a kind offer to have specially made the way he wanted. He was the only one in the restaurant. He said the staff/cook (Chef Frank??) was super cool and nice about it, and real friendly to talk with. --- That is all I can say about this "Mystery Lunch" without rudely interrogating my friend. Those are the facts I have. Maybe someone can figure out why it was so expensive?

Smoochie and The Bean --- 11 years ago -

I guess they charge a helluvalot if its a special order. I've always stuck to the menu there and found it to be very reasonably priced.

Keystone --- 11 years ago -

Love the food. Just wish the atmosphere was nicer.
