Here is an interesting solution...

See below...

Emperor of Kingwood --- 6 years ago -

The Dems dont have a 2/3 majority in the HOR and not even a simple majority in the Senate. There's no way a veto override vote would be successful.

Prolix Raconteur --- 6 years ago -

Here's a solution. Chuck and Nancy quit being hypocrites playing politics and just do what they said they would do in previous speeches in congress. Pay for a barrier and support a secure border.

sdanielmcev --- 6 years ago -

Keep it shut down. Maybe get rid of some of the bloat.

sdanielmcev --- 6 years ago -

fuzz81 --- 6 years ago -

Lol. It’s shutdown because trump wants to spend billions on a wall that would be ineffective. Don’t complain about bloat if you support a wall.

Remember the campaign promise that Mexico was going to pay for it? Lol

SodaPopAndRitalin --- 6 years ago -

Why do you suppose that prior to January 3, there was no national emergency regarding a wall and immigration?
When Republicans controlled all three branches of government, just a tiny bit over a week ago, did they not take up the issue and just approve the funding?

I'm very interested in hearing your intelligent, logical explanation and reasoning, considering you are by far one of the oldest, most experienced, educated, successful, and clever people on the loo.

sdanielmcev --- 6 years ago -

They didn't have control over all three branches.

DVaz --- 6 years ago -

How about Democrats compromise....

BuiltinTX70 --- 6 years ago -

How about open the government and return to the deal they had, what was it, back in November?

A bipartisan deal that Trump was good with, until he was talked out of it............that deal actually had more money for a border.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 6 years ago -

Politicians sicken me. Trump has dug in now and he's such a baby, he'll never give in, and all for the wrong reasons. And the Dems can't stand him so they don't want to give in no matter what. And you know who suffers? The people going to work every day and not getting PAID. It's disgusting that they are making innocent people suffer all the while claiming the high road.

I think all of congress and the senate and Trump and all his staff should have their pay suspended. Lol
Games, all at the expense of people going to work every day and playing by the rules.

Because the Constitution grants the Senate and HOR the ability to create their own operating rules. The Senate requires 60 votes for some things to pass. The Constitution also requires all spending Bill's to originate in the HOR. What the HOR passed the Senate wouldn't pass because the Senate has on 52 Republicans.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 6 years ago -

Politicians- even the well intentioned ones ended up greedy and jaded.(let me add, greedy for power more than money, sometimes.)

Emperor of Kingwood --- 6 years ago -

Why do you suppose that prior to January 3, there was no national emergency regarding a wall and immigration?

There has still been no national emergency declared.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 6 years ago -

He's still hoping the dems will fold, I'm guessing.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 6 years ago -

Trump has dug in now and he's such a baby, he'll never give in, and all for the wrong reasons

You could say the same thing about Pelosi and Schumer. But, neither Pelosi or Schumer has compromised on any of this.

BuiltinTX70 --- 6 years ago -

If this is such an emergency, or any other terms Trump has used to describe the situation, why not simply declare it such and do what he wants? And re-open the government so people can actually pay their mortgages/rent/bills???

Because any deal that grants money to actually build a wall won't happen for how long??? The wall doesn't simply go up in a matter of weeks or days. Meanwhile, the extremely scary situation drags on. And we don't want criminals gaining entry.

Get the military down there now as well.

It's dire.

No idea why Trump pulled them out right after the election. :)

Emperor of Kingwood --- 6 years ago -

I suspect that will be his next move within a week or so.

txwareagle --- 6 years ago -

Where are our leaders... The Congress has the duty to pass legislation that will be signed into law by the President.

Both branches (and their leaders) are acting like spoiled children refusing to eat their spinach (or kale nowadays)

com·pro·mise/ˈkämprəˌmīz/
noun
1.an agreement or a settlement of a dispute that is reached by each side making concessions.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 6 years ago -

Where are our leaders...

Its all about posturing for the 2020 election.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 6 years ago -

And, this is about personal hard feelings. The Dems hate trump. He's bull headed. They are trying to use THIER power to break HiS power. Games I tell ya...

It's shameful they don't care people aren't getting paid.

BuiltinTX70 --- 6 years ago -

Of course I was being somewhat sarcastic in my last post.

But it really is Trump's only move to save face.

Then when the courts rule against him, he can cry "it's fixed".....

Fixed? But wait............

sdanielmcev --- 6 years ago -

We should just annex mexico. They're so dependent on the US anyway.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 6 years ago -

I'd laugh, but it's true-

Emperor of Kingwood --- 6 years ago -

We should just annex mexico. They're so dependent on the US anyway.

They're trying to nullify the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo by using our own laws and the lack of will to enforce them as the tool. There's also the Dems who are assisting them.

BuiltinTX70 --- 6 years ago -

Here's what doesn't make sense.

Trump, today, says he doesn't want to call a national emergency. He wants Congress to work it out. Remember that.

We know there's bipartisan bill was agreed upon two months ago for immigration that covers a wide variety of things. That's Congress, folks.

At the same time, Mitch McConnell refuses to send any bill to the floor to vote in the Senate.

Sorry, it's Republicans - and Trump - holding this up.

Plain and simple.

OrdinaryGuy --- 6 years ago -

Then when the courts rule against him, he can cry "it's fixed".....

Actually, the "National Emergency" thing has been used 31 times by other Presidents including Obama.

OrdinaryGuy --- 6 years ago -

Sorry, it's Republicans - and Trump - holding this up.

Once again, the democrats are never wrong.

Please explain to me why a fence or wall was great and we had to have it (both Pelosi and Schumer said this) under Obama but not under Trump. This seems like a really big flip flop.

OrdinaryGuy --- 6 years ago -

Trump, today, says he doesn't want to call a national emergency. He wants Congress to work it out. Remember that.

He has offered to compromise. It's the democrats who won't compromise. It's on the democrats now.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 6 years ago -

We know there's bipartisan bill was agreed upon two months ago for immigration that covers a wide variety of things. That's Congress, folks.

It didn't include the money POTUS wants for the wall. Therefore, the bill was DOA at the WH.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 6 years ago -

At the same time, Mitch McConnell refuses to send any bill to the floor to vote in the Senate.

There's no point to that if POTUS will not sign it.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 6 years ago -

Sorry, it's Republicans - and Trump - holding this up.

Depends on your perspective. Pelosi and Schumer could compromise.

fuzz81 --- 6 years ago -

Bull. Trump and repugnants own this 100 percent.

txwareagle --- 6 years ago -

They both own this 100%.

sdanielmcev --- 6 years ago -

No. The voters own it. They're the ones that need to pressure congress to act.
This fiasco is why the founding fathers put the electoral college in place.

Miss Understanding --- 6 years ago -

How about Democrats compromise....

How about president Hump compromise!! I hate that sicko wannabe man.

Miss Understanding --- 6 years ago -

They both own this 100%.

BULL HUMP SAID IT HIMSELF HE WILL TAKE BLAME SO HE GETS IT ALL ON HIM.
