MONTEZUMA, Ia. ? An undocumented immigrant is in custody, charged with first-degree murder in the Mollie Tibbetts investigation, authorities said.

Cristhian Bahena Rivera, 24, has been in the area for four to seven years, officials said. Charges were filed in Poweshiek County court. He is being held on a $1 million cash bond.

E-verify isn't that effective. As long as the SS# they plug in is an accurate number, that's as far as it goes. Pilfered lists of SS#'s are available for purchase (deceased people etc). It's better than nothing, but people can beat it and often do, as in this case. 

Doesn't seem like it took long for the authorities to discover that the suspect was an illegal immigrant. Yet he worked locally for "4-7years" and worked for a prominent employer. Seems like he owned a car(?).

The "I didn't know" defense is kinda thin.

How many other similar employees does that company have? They have a corporate headquarters. They have resources. (Maybe built in part on the backs of illegal immigrants.)

Apparently used some Social Security Administration program, but not E-Verify.

I get so tired of people gripping about the US separating families. They know it will happen and they still come. Why isn?t the blame put on the person at fault, the illegal?
