RayofHope --- 6 years ago -

After showing how little she knows about politics, she has been avoiding the media. Recently, she held a town hall meeting and would not let the press in. She also turned down $10,000 to debate Ben Shapiro over the merits of Socialism.

Running From Debate

OrdinaryGuy --- 6 years ago -

Of course not, she doesn't know anything about it, so she runs. Another smart candidate that the democrats have nominated.

DVaz --- 6 years ago -

She claimed Ben was "cat-calling" & was being sexist. So Candace Owens (young, black, conservative with brains and wit like Shapiro) then called her out. She offered even more money to Cortez' charity of choice. Cortez didn't even respond. Now every smart, young, conservative woman is calling Cortez out.

roer de pot --- 6 years ago -

Why would she debate that sniveling weasel Ben? Is he running against her? He is a showman, an instigator, and has never added anything of value to the public discourse.
Is Candace running against her as well?
She didn't even respond to the morons.

She owes neither of these two idiots anything - the only people she owes anything to is her constituents.

As to "banning" the press, her campaign has repeatedly said that this will not be the norm, but they wanted their community to be able to discuss issues freely and in a comfortable environment without the circus of the media - immigration, victims of abuse, etc.

But I am not sure why you are even upset about that, considering how you support the trump Circus calling the media "fake news" and an "enemy of the people." How do you justify supporting one and not the other?

SoupIsGoodFood --- 6 years ago -

She didn't respond because she's scared. She knows she's standing on rocky ground with her socialist platform. She wouldn't dare be challenged on it because it would ruin her for life.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 6 years ago -

She owes neither of these two idiots anything - the only people she owes anything to is her constituents.

She doesn't have constituents. She's yet to be elected.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 6 years ago -

Now every smart, young, conservative woman is calling Cortez out.

Its pretty clear Cortez is anything but smart. What online diploma mill did she claim graduation with a degree?

jackass --- 6 years ago -

Trump U?

SoupIsGoodFood --- 6 years ago -

She's too dumb for that online university.

OrdinaryGuy --- 6 years ago -

Let's hope she keeps backing other democrats be cause they keep losing. LOL

kingwood17 --- 6 years ago -

Its pretty clear Cortez is anything but smart. What online diploma mill did she claim graduation with a degree?

You are thinking of Republican Melissa Howard

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had a small asteroid named after her by the International Astronomical Union after she took 2nd place in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, in which she did a research project in microbiology.

She then went on to earn a B.A. from Boston University in economics and international relations.

After college, she established a publishing firm that focuses on educational literature for children. She was an educator with a non-profit organization. She's interned with senators. All of this before she is even 30 years old.

Not smart?

How appropriate. She is a bit of a space case.

Not smart?

Education does not always equate intelligence.

How can someone with an economics degree seriously pitch all those unattainable and monetarily unsustainable social programs? Unless it's just an endless feel good, virtue signaling campaign to win over dimwitted, starry eyed voters. Doesn't seat well when she gets off the coasts, as noted by the failed candidates she supported in the heartland this summer.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 6 years ago -

virtue signaling campaign to win over dimwitted, starry eyed voters.

This is her campaign in a nutshell.

It seems to be working. Thank God these dimwitted, starry eyed voters don't vote en masse.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 6 years ago -

How can someone with an economics degree seriously pitch all those unattainable and monetarily unsustainable social programs?

Exactly. Not to mention the total lack of understanding of the Palestinian/Israeli issue. If she did graduate from Boston U, they've got to be pretty embarrassed.

kingwood17 --- 6 years ago -

Those programs ARE sustainable though, but will never happen so long as conservatives continue to protect the wealthiest of Americans, discard the poorest, and continue increasing our already bloated military.
Conservatives seem to support millions spent on an ego parade for trump, but say that money towards education and healthcare can't work. Why?

Not to mention the total lack of understanding of the Palestinian/Israeli issue.

Where is she wrong? By saying that the Palestinian people deserve to be treated as humans? She supports a two-state solution to the conflict. Jews have expressed support for her calls for decency. You may not agree with her views. You may believe that the Palestinian people, including children, are not worthy of life, so perhaps it is YOU that has a lack of understanding.

If she did graduate from Boston U

Why did you add "if?" She did. She graduated. There is proof she graduated. She didn't have to lie about it, like the above Republican candidate did.
I have not heard any administrator from Boston University say anything negative about her.
She is an educated woman who is making a difference in her community.

What are you doing?

SoupIsGoodFood --- 6 years ago -

Conservatives seem to support millions spent on an ego parade for trump

When did this parade take place?

Emperor of Kingwood --- 6 years ago -

What are you doing?

Paying more than my fair share of taxes.
Providing high paying jobs
Subsidizing student debt when they default
Paying for benefits received by illegal aliens.
Subsidizing others health care
Funding the useless Dept. of Education.
Funding the waste of money Mueller.

Prolix Raconteur --- 6 years ago -

Those programs ARE sustainable though, but will never happen so long as conservatives continue to protect the wealthiest of Americans,

So you're saying you support actual socialism in the US? Because that's what it sounds like.

kingwood17 --- 6 years ago -

Paying more than my fair share of taxes.

While I understand the need for people like you to boast on social media about your wealth, I don't believe you.
And even if you are paying more than your "fair share" of taxes, what has it gotten you?
Not better roads.
Not a healthier country.
Not a more educated country.
Not a country that doesn't murder its citizens on an hourly basis.
Not better infrastructure.
So what have all your taxes gotten you so far?

Providing high paying jobs

What business do you own? Be proud. Tell us.

Subsidizing student debt when they default

When a student defaults on a student loan, it is most often repaid by their own taxes.

Paying for benefits received by illegal aliens.

Except this isn't true. "Illegal aliens" do not receive benefits.

facts

Subsidizing others health care

I believe you unintentionally made my point for me. Good job!

Funding the useless Dept. of Education.

The one DeVos is running into the ground?
The one whose mission statement is:

Our mission is to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access

Do you believe that an ignorant, uneducated country makes our country better, or worse?

Funding the waste of money Mueller

You believe that because an investigation isn't moving as quickly as YOU think it should, it's a "waste."
Were you this concerned over Gowdy's waste of money, time, and resources over Benghazi? That fiasco resulted in zero charges, zero arrests, zero indictments, zero guilty pleas.

What has the Mueller investigation resulted in thus far? I'll patiently wait while you look up the answer.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 6 years ago -

Illegal aliens DO benefit from taxpayer dollars. If you think this isn't true............ well......

SoupIsGoodFood --- 6 years ago -

LOL @ the voice from the box.

kingwood17 --- 6 years ago -

So you're saying you support actual socialism in the US? Because that's what it sounds like.

I would say that I support a socio-democratic system like Sweden.
They have Social Security, affordable health care, generous vacation and family leave, limits on prescription drugs and hospital charges.

A dear friend of mine is as American as it gets. She has always been pro-gun, anti-"illegal immigrant," and a strong supporter of the military. She voted for trump.

Earlier this year, she moved to Norway for work. She recently had to receive medical treatment, and that one instance changed her views on America.
She paid a few dollars, was seen immediately, didn't have to wait for weeks to see a specialist. And because she isn't a citizen of Norway, her expenses far exceeded what natives have to pay.

She has not seen a single obese person, everyone is kind and happy, everyone lives a decent life, no one complains about their taxes being too high, no one cries over murdered children in a classroom...

I don't have all the answers, or even some of them. Our capitalistic society is what is unsustainable. We can not continue on like this, where the wage gaps widen - the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. Contrary to the tall tales many on here like to tell, no one is so mega rich that they will never have a single worry down the line.

I don't know a single person personally that is asking for the government to give them anything for free. The idea that socialism is asking for free stuff is misguided, and a result of conservative ignorance and outright lies fed to their ignorant masses.

Has the trump administration made you richer? Is your health better? Is this country going to be a kinder, smarter, more loving place for your grandchildren? Will they have green grass to roll in, or will they be covered in soot and smog?

Something needs to change, and we need to meet somewhere in the middle.

But, at the end of the day, the older generations will die out, and the younger ones coming up behind us are supporting socialism more and more. We need to listen to them, and we need to work together.

What we are doing now simply isn't working.

sheddy --- 6 years ago -

Who wants to pay up to 60% of the money they worked their butts off to taxes. I?ll take care of my family myself.

Ocasio-Cortez,has campaigned on the issue of minimum wage, arguing for a $15 federal minimum wage, up from $7.25, insisting that it won?t have any negative consequences for businesses.

During her appearance on ?The Daily Show? with Trevor Noah, Ocasio-Cortez was pressed whether her suggestion of $15 minimum wage wouldn?t tank the economy. She cited the example of Seattle, which voted four years ago to gradually increase the hourly minimum to $15 over several years.

Yet Seattle is a troubling case, as research from the University of Washington's School of Public Policy and Governance found that the higher minimum wage led to significant job declines and actually left the poorest worst off in the city, the Washington Post reported.

The study estimated that low-wage jobs in the city dropped by 9 percent since 2016 and ?hourly wages in such jobs increased by around 3 percent.? As a result, the study said, the city?s average worker lost $125 a month thanks to the minimum wage hike.

Most of my family lives in The UK. Every single one of them hate the healthcare over there. All I can do is take their words for it. The majority are liberal as well.

sheddy --- 6 years ago -

Everyone can see how dumb she is. What does that say about the people who vote for her? Look at how the VA hospitals are run. Can you image how bad the government would mess up trying to provide health care for us all?

Hey jackass, so, you don't believe me or my family? Many of them have also lived here and are dual citizens.

Why don't you talk to people who have actually dealt with socialized medicine instead of believing everything you hear on CNN?

jackass --- 6 years ago -

It?s just you I don?t believe. I?ll leave your family out of it...

sdanielmcev --- 6 years ago -

But, at the end of the day, the older generations will die out, and the younger ones coming up behind us are supporting socialism more and more. We need to listen to them, and we need to work together.

That's been happening since time immemorial. I guess you weren't around in the sixties. And each generation finds out socialism doesn't work.

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

SoupIsGoodFood --- 6 years ago -

What a completely ridiculous statement.

Guess who will pay for this? The consumer will pay for this as businesses raise their prices to make up for the higher wages. There are no free rides. Someone has to pay.
