Do we have any updates on this investigation? How long does it take for them to shake it all out?

Prolix Raconteur --- 7 years ago -

Said citizen would still be alive if he didn't steal a motorcycle, flee the police, attempt a carjacking and resist arrest. Stupidity often ends tragically.

AND pull a gun.

Judas --- 7 years ago -

I just read elsewhere that the deputy retracted the statement that a gun was pulled on him.

On Monday, a Montgomery County Precinct 4 Deputy Constable was involved in a pursuit of a motorcycle at a high rate of speed south on Loop 494 near Northpark. Within seconds the motorcycle was out of sight but the deputy was able to get a license number. Moments later another Precinct 4 Deputy Constable spotted the same motorcycle at Kingwood Drive and Loop 494 and initiated a second pursuit. The motorcycle fled east on Kingwood Drive at a high rate of speed with the deputy close behind. Just before they got to the intersection of Northpark and Chestnut Ridge the motorcycle made contact with a vehicle causing him to lose control and lay the bike down. With a backpack, the male fled behind the Time Wise Shell station and into the car wash. The deputy was close behind. It was then an elderly male was just finishing going through the car wash when the suspect attempted to get him out of the vehicle and carjack the driver. The driver struggled. That is when the deputy approached the male and attempted to taze him. The taser was not effective. A struggle took place and seeing the male attempt to get a weapon out of the back pack the deputy stepped back and fired. The male identified as Joshua Johnson Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. Since the incident took place just inside the Houston City limits, the Houston Police Department Homicide Division responded to the scene. Johnson was transported to the Harris County Medical Examiner?s Office for autopsy. On the scene police recovered a weapon, a small amount of marijuana and one pound of meth from Johnson?s back-pack. Video surveillance on the scene helped investigators sort the situation out. Somewhere during the struggle Johnson was able to pull the .45 out of the backpack and point it at the deputy. He was unsuccessful at chambering a round. The deputy was given a standard 3-day off and was cleared by internal affairs. As with all officer involved shootings the case will be referred to the Harris County Grand Jury without charges. Johnson had appeared on last week?s Montgomery County?s Crime Stoppers page as he had an open warrant for tampering with evidence. He was also charged with accident involving personal injury/death due to the crash. That charge stemmed from back in June when he was involved in a crash near Splendora and fled the scene. He went to a pond on the southbound feeder of US 59 and spread the contents of a large bag of marijuana across the pond. He was removed from the pond and arrested. Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constables responded to that scene with a boat to retrieve the marijuana. As early as last week he was also involved in a pursuit with DPS where he was able to get away at a very excessive speed.

I have never heard of a taser NOT disabling a person. How is that possible? Was the gun just not working??

In short. Someone snapped

No, a criminal tried to pull a gun on a cop. Very bad decision.

fliptin --- 7 years ago -

"the citizen"? you mean the citizen that lost his life after running from a citizen, put other citizens on the road in jeopardy, who tried to take another citizen's car, then threatened to kill yet another citizen? you mean that citizen?

?I have never heard of a taser NOT disabling a person. How is that possible? Was the gun just not working?

That actually happens a lot. That is why police aren?t trained to use tasers when deadly force is justified, because tasers fail. They fail if both barbs don?t strike the subject, or both barbs impact too close together this not shorting our large muscle groups orrrr the person is so raged out that the electricity has no effect on them
