It's overwhelming to see this kind of destruction, especially after the hurricanes and earthquakes. I know they are saying 500 injured, but is that all people who were actually shot?? Or is that include people injured in the stampede of fleeing people? I cannot imagine one guy getting that many rounds off.

Keep our brothers and sisters in Nevada in your prayers.

AMDG --- 7 years ago -

Prayers to all -

Are we great again yet --- 7 years ago -

Wayne LaPierre will have an answer for you. Just tweet him

Prolix Raconteur --- 7 years ago -

I cannot imagine one guy getting that many rounds off.

Have you seen the videos or heard the audio? Dude had multiple fully automatic machine guns (highly illegal for regular folks). He had a high vantage point and a packed crowd of people who didn't even know what was happening due to the band playing for a while. It was a recipe for disaster but I would assume some of the injuries/deaths are due to being trampled as well once people started to panic.

That being said, there are also videos where it sounds like multiple guns being fired simultaneously.

TinktheSprite --- 7 years ago -

The little shiit killed himself in his hotel room after aiming at the country music festival goers. Killed 50 at last count, I heard?

That's what happens with a submachine gun or whatever kind of mass killing war machine weaponry this dude had his finger on.

SAD.

TinktheSprite --- 7 years ago -

The video gives me chills. I can't watch any more of it. Senseless.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

You don't have a clue what your talking about do you.

The Awe Inspiring JoelleDrees (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

Please keep it respectful, Emp.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

A statement of fact is not disrespectful.

Dorothy Parker --- 7 years ago -

The man had a stockpile of weapons in the hotel room. 23 were found there and 19 more at home.

It's crazy that he was not on the radar in any way. No crime history, no history of mental illnes, no social media accounts, no fanatical religious or political affiliations found thus far. Why would a seemingly normal, responsible person do this? What could be the motivation? It's truly terrifying to think about. :(

TinktheSprite --- 7 years ago -

His father was a Most Wanted Psychopathic killer. Thinking maybe genes were inherited? They suspect he had been planning this horrid act for a long time. He had 2 semi automatics set up on tripods.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

Why would a seemingly normal, responsible person do this? What could be the motivation? It's truly terrifying to think about.

Good question and at this point we can only speculate as to the reason. Could be something he's been harboring deep within for many years. Could be th culmination of many years of frustration with something, or, there was some sort of sentinel event in his life that triggered this response.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

His father was a Most Wanted Psychopathic killer.

No, his father was a bank robber. The wanted poster described him as psychopathic with suicidal tendencies.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

His brother mentioned he hadn't spoken with him much except about their 90 YO mother who went thru a hurricane. He also said they "use" to be in business together years ago.

I'm betting he was a sullen, awkward and weird guy. He was evil. Sometimes that's all there is.

fuzz81 --- 7 years ago -

The man had a stockpile of weapons in the hotel room. 23 were found there and 19 more at home.

And the GOP swill tell you that stockpile was his right, but healthcare for his 500+ victims is a privilege.

Dorothy Parker --- 7 years ago -

The 2nd amendment was never intended to be abused and bastardized like it is in modern times. No one outside of the military needs a semi or fully automatic rifle for home protection or hunting. We live in a culture where someone's right to own these weapons is more important than public safety. Mass shootings are becoming normal...politicians want to offer prayers, but, no solutions.

AMDG --- 7 years ago -

Dorthy - just a point of clarity - semi automatics - are multiple rounds, but each round you fire requires a trigger pull - this type of rifle is by far the most common type of hunting rifle (including mine)

just an fyi

Dorothy Parker --- 7 years ago -

Do you think this is what the forefathers had in mind when drafting the 2nd amendment?

Let's have people stockpile weapons, let's make it easy to convert a semi-automatic rifle to a fully automatic rifle, let's create a culture where going to school, the mall, a movie or a concert could be a life or death endeavor. Sounds dramatic, but it's where we are as a society. Now we want to make silencers available to people and we've lightened restrictions to make it easier for those with mental illness to purchase a gun.

No one wants to talk about common sense soultions to curb the constant gun violence we have in this country. We put guns before lives. We are a nation of cowards.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

Those kits you can buy to convert a weapon to an automatic should be illegal IMO. NOW.

I think people are just too emotional and have to connect literally everything to their political stance. We have a society of people who can't think for themselves, can't appropriately parse something out to make logical discernment... Too much stupid FB and loving to fight and argue online where they feel powerful.

It's not rocket science to ban one gun, and it's accessories and clamp down on them in society bc they are useless except in an act of societal war. And if that happens, life will be over anyway.

Not having this weapon does not mean you can't hunt or protect yourselves. This IS about politics of extremists.

Dorothy Parker --- 7 years ago -

I agree 100%, SighFi.

Prolix Raconteur --- 7 years ago -

It's not rocket science to ban one gun, and it's accessories and clamp down on them in society bc they are useless except in an act of societal war.

And what gun would you ban? Semiautomatic rifles (so called assault rifles) account for around 2% of gun crimes committed annually. Handguns account for almost all gun crimes. Fully automatic rifles (machine guns), while highly destructive, are almost non existent in civilian hands. This guy was an anomaly. That being said, I see no reason why any civilian needs a fully automatic weapon.

jackass --- 7 years ago -

hat being said, I see no reason why any civilian needs a fully automatic weapon.

Why not?

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

No one outside of the military needs a semi or fully automatic rifle for home protection or hunting.

In your opinion.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

Do you think this is what the forefathers had in mind when drafting the 2nd amendment?

What they had in mind was not having a government that told individuals what they could and could not have.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

Those kits you can buy to convert a weapon to an automatic should be illegal IMO. NOW.

I won't argue that, I tend to agree. But, if they are made illegal it wont stop it. Plus, the parts are easily made.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

It's not rocket science to ban one gun,

Which one?

AMDG --- 7 years ago -

What they had in mind was not having a government that told individuals what they could and could not have.

Emp - you have to admit that we already draw a line on what private individuals can and can't have.

You can't have a nuclear weapon, a tank, RPG ( i don't know maybe you can - but hoping you cant)

So it is not against the 2nd amendment to draw a line - we are just arguing where that line is drawn.

TinktheSprite --- 7 years ago -

"Worst mass killing in US history". If you look back on other sad events, there were shot guns, hand guns, etc. As automatic weapons become available to any Private Citizen, abused, of COURSE each situation only going to get worse. And WORSE! Why in heavens name would any regular person need to own an automatic weapon let along 15 or more of them?

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

So it is not against the 2nd amendment to draw a line - we are just arguing where that line is drawn.

Yes I know. But, its interesting to note that at the time of the writing and ratification of the 2nd amendment that cannons existed and they didn't specifically exclude them and there's no doubt that at that time they were military weapons.

My point isn't whether someone needs and RPG (they don't) its about how much power are we willing to abdicate to the federal government in the name of public safety, public good, etc. Whats more important freedom or life?

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

As automatic weapons become available to any Private Citizen, abused, of COURSE each situation only going to get worse.

That's not happening. Automatics are illegal to own unless you have an FFL and only then under certain circumstances.

AMDG --- 7 years ago -

The philosophy is over - we are drawing lines, and we have government controls on gun ownership - I don't think there is any serious position that says we should stop any of that.

So IMO there is nothing wrong with asking if we are drawing the line in the right place or are the current controls effective enough.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 7 years ago -

AMDG, do you really go hunting with an AR 15? Why? Are you hunting elephants? If you shoot a deer, there isn't going to be a lot of good parts left-

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 7 years ago -

It's true most homicides aren't committed with semi automatic rifles, but when they're used, look how many people are hit-

Emperor of Kingwood --- 7 years ago -

[i]The philosophy is over - we are drawing lines, and we have government controls on gun ownership - I don't think there is any serious position that says we should stop any of that.

That's not what I said. The debate over the role and scope of government is far from over. That IS the philosophy of government. Today we have some level of gun control. Where does it end? Whats next? How much more freedom are we willing to give over to government control?

no - i said my hunting rifle is a semi automatic - it is a 270, holds 5 rounds and 1 in the chamber - this is a very very very common deer rifle -

Zapper009 --- 7 years ago -

Enough that innocent people cannot be murdered en masse...
