I've about had it with T-Mobile, I've been a customer for 15 years. The last road trip DH and I took was beyond frustrating. I could barely get a signal about 40% of the time.

Who do you have, and do you have any signal issues?

tia!!

voice or data coverage?

Data coverage falls off when you get outside metro areas on most providers.

Older CDMA networks have the best coverage, but they're slower and being phased out for GSM.

Froggie --- 9 years ago -

For both, but voice is the most important while on a road trip.

ok....speak language I can understand (lol) what is CDMA and GSM?

My phone is a newer model. IPhone 6 plus and I like it a lot, it's big enough for these old eyes to see.

Thanks fuzz!

I have Verizon, and I gotta say they have been impeccable service wise. The Apple iPhone, NOT SO MUCH. LOL. I hate the iempire thing..its prison.

DVaz --- 9 years ago -

I hate Verizon, but they seem to have the best coverage across the US.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 9 years ago -

I use AT&T, and I've never had a problem- I have an apple 5-

RedMulch --- 9 years ago -

AT&T hands down.

Dr Aborto --- 9 years ago -

I use Boost. The phone service is good but honestly I usually don't talk on the phone much. Texting is sometimes an issue. Texts can arrive a few minutes late or unable to send. That has happened a handful of times in the past year. BUT, I pay $30/month. I'll take that service over perfect service for $100/month.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 9 years ago -

doc, I only pay 50.00- and everything works-

doc, I only pay 50.00- and everything works-?

That's family lunch time at Chipotle for me. I'll stick with Boost and their B level service.

verizon and Iphone 6. we travel all over US and England, Canada and no problems (we bought an extra package for a short time for last trip to london) No problems.

Froggie --- 9 years ago -

Dear doctor (I love saying that), my only means of communication is my cell phone so I need reliable service. I'm not married to an iPhone but I do need a larger phone, it's just easier to see.

Thanks Tatty and Mulchie, I've got some homework to do.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 9 years ago -

your welcome, sweet girl!!!

Froggie --- 9 years ago -

Thanks SSFG and Eliza, looks like Verizon is in the lead so far. I hate changing because, well I just do. I'll take my number with me, THAT would be a total nightmare to change and notify everyone! OY!!

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 9 years ago -

I just saw a commercial from AT&T, and you can get full service for $30.00!

fuzz81 --- 9 years ago -

CDMA and GSM are the two types of radio technology used. CDMA is older, and more established, therefore has better voice coverage especially in rural areas.

Verizon and Sprint are CDMA, and have the best voice coverage. The others mainly AT&T and TMobile are GSM.

I used to have Sprint which had excellent voice coverage on cross country drives I've taken. Verizon coverage would be the same.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 9 years ago -

Both AT&T and Verizon have decent overseas service as well.

Butterbean --- 9 years ago -

I switched to AT&T last year because they covered an area that was unavailable with Sprint. I'm happy with the service, especially the ability to have a hotspot through my phone.

I think most services are OK in a large urban area. I was not unhappy with Sprint. I just needed the additional coverage.

Dotti --- 9 years ago -

I can tell you that years ago I did a lot of research for the construction company I worked for after Ike. They relied on their service and had T-Mobile. We ended up switching everything to Verizon because Verizon brings in portable towers during disasters were other carriers don't. They had the best service and price. My family lives in Summerwood and had to drive to the Randall's parking lot on WLH in Kingwood if they wanted to use their AT&T, T-Mobile or Nextel service after Ike. I took my Verizon phone to Summerwood and was able to make calls no problem. I have been with them for about 10 year myself.

CavemanBarney --- 9 years ago -

Check out Virgin Mobile. They're on the Sprint network and my unlimited costs me $35/Month

Joe King --- 9 years ago -

My whole family uses AT&T the monthly plan. It's around $45.00 a month unlimited everything. It's great coverage. No problems and great choice of phones or you can bring over your own phone . So I recommend AT&Tby far.

Froggie --- 9 years ago -

Thanks for all of the replies I'll make my decision in a day or two and let you know who I end up with.

sweetpea* --- 9 years ago -

I have Verizon (2 iPhones and 2 iPads) & no problem with dropping calls. I had AT&T for a while and kept dropping calls around Town Center where I do most of my shopping. It was a nightmare. Since my switch to Verizon, I have had no issues on dropping calls. Some of us in my family are on VZ and others are on AT&T (company phones). The ones on AT&T plans sometimes get the group texts later on their phones than the ones with VZ service.

Froggie --- 9 years ago -

I made the decision yesterday and switched to Verizon. I got a new iPhone 6splus, it operates just like my old phone and even fits in the same case.

Problem solved....thanks again everyone for your input.

We have T-mobile and when we don't have a T-mobile tower it switches over to AT&T. I have never had an issue traveling with it. I am going home to Japan and will see how that works.
