My high schoolers asked me about whatever happened to Zachary Burton Harlan the teacher who allegedly (since I am not even sure if he was convicted despite admitting guilt)slept with a student at KPark a year or two ago. Naturally I googled his name and KU came up and after reading I found he didn't even get jail time! Really, a small fine of $500 and 4 years probation! When you are a teacher you have a responsibility to protecct our kids! Not victimize them. It certainly didn't send a great message to my kids that teacher can violate you and get away with a slap on the wrist. Did he even lose his teaching liscense? The kicker, I think he moved into my neighborhood in Trailwood Village. 

His teaching license is gone forever. 

That is a good thing but I am so disappointed in our judicial system and how lightly we take his actions. He should have done some time in jail in my opinion. And what church would hire a person that could endanger our youth? 

He is not on sex offenders list 

I recall something about the issue being clouded with regard to penalty since the girl was 17 going on 18 at the time of the "affair", and the penalties are different at that age than for a "younger" minor. Regardless, he definitely took advantage of his position as an educator.
