I went down to the Hyatt Regency last night to join my daughter and sil and children, to go to the Astros game today and I was really stressed last night about leaving my dog at home overnight. I have never done that before. I leave the cats for 2-3 days, but I haven't had a dog in years. so I really didn't know what to do. I didn't want to post before I left for security reasons, but I came home and everything is good. She (the dog) did not even pee on the carpet.

somebody tell me I did the right thing...lol

Very good! I hope that's something that continues. Dogs can be weird when their owners are gone. Ours hardly eat anything at all whenever we have a housesitter.

I know what you mean. I have only had my pup 5 months but there is going to come the day she needs to be left with the pet sitter. She is really good while I am at work but...

Sorry Red Mulch, but I would never leave my dog in the house overnight alone. Dog Sitters have phone numbers, not everything has to be put on the board. Since it was just overnight one of your friends couldn't come by in the evening or morning or both? Nope that would never happen at my house. Houses catch fire, a number of things could go wrong.

Red, I have four and they are all very much a part of my family and you did nothing wrong. If yours is like ours, they do not eat or drink very much knowing you are not there. People go to work all the time and out to dinner from work and the dogs are fine. i know my son goes off with friends and doesn't come home until the next morning sometimes. They stay in his room. If you worried about a fire you would have to not leave them ever because fires don't just happen when you have left them overnight. You did fine.

Id suggest a doggie door- a small dog doesn't need a big one, so it wouldn't be a temptation for bad guys!

freebyrdll --- 9 years ago -

I don't recomend it. So many unforeseen things can happen. I also recommend a having someone you know & trust check in before bedtime and first thing in the morning.

Can they hold their bladders that long?

Zapper, I have that doggie door- the problem with it is the batteries and collars are very expensive, and they go bad often- the good thing is they're bullet proof and don't open without the remote on the dog-
