Supreme Court Allows Texas Abortion Clinics to Remain Open


Monday, June 29, 2015 3:47 PM EDT


The Supreme Court on Monday allowed nine Texas abortion clinics to remain open while the justices consider whether to hear an appeal from a decision effectively ordering them to close.
The vote was 5 to 4, with Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. and Justices Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and Samuel A. Alito Jr. voting to deny the stay.
The case concerns two parts of a state law that impose strict requirements on abortion providers. One requires all abortion clinics in the state to meet the standards for ?ambulatory surgical centers,? including regulations concerning buildings, equipment and staffing. The other requires doctors performing abortions to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital.

Actually nice to see the process work. There is a law passed and signed, it gets challenged, and at some point the SC will decide on its constitutionality.

I never said it needs to be replaced. A nation doesn't have to identify with one religion. After all, we have "freedom of religion", NOT specifically Christianity. My point is any specific beliefs don't belong in government. It should be fact based only.

Really have no clue if they will or will not. Not trying to beat a dead horse, but this will be another impact from the same sex decision. If the 4 more conservative judges do not have confidence that the other 5 will settle matters within the confines of the law, they will be less likely to easily allow cases like this on the docket.

All the while they will be actively looking for cases to help define the limits of the 14 th amendment
