Shocking

Immigrants and their U.S.-born children make up more than 40 percent of new Medicaid recipients at a cost of $4.6 billion, according to an analysis of government data.

Immigrants?

BS Illegal Mexican damn criminals.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 10 years ago -

Guess who's footing that bill?

gunsnroses --- 10 years ago -

We have become the NEW Mexico! Get out and vote in 2016.

Butterbean --- 10 years ago -

Be interesting to see how the new Congress responds to this information.

Big D --- 10 years ago -

What's the point of posting this? Is there some policy change that you think this supports?

Foreign born Americans are usually poorer than US born Americans. Water is wet.

Are you opposed to Mexicans legally immigrating here?

Why? Are you outraged that first generation Americans are poor? Are you one of the morons that believes they stay that way?

Wicked --- 10 years ago -

First of all, if they are born in America, they are not immigrants. The parents cannot get on medicaid unless they provide a social security card. If they are making minimum wage, they should qualify. It is all fair. When you have a population of poor, hard working people, they deserve health care. You are ok with minimum wage jobs...like you say, they don't deserve more. You need to be ok with them getting enough to cover their basic survival.

When Newt Gingrich labels President Barack Obama the food stamp president and charges that the current president has put more people on food stamps than any other president, he?s not entirely wrong, but he?s not telling the whole story.

It?s true that the most recent figures from the Department of Agriculture?s Food and Nutrition Service (provided to Factcheck.org/USA Today) show that a record number of people?some 46.2 million?are enrolled in the program. But the same data shows that more individuals were added to the program while George W. Bush was in office than have enrolled under Obama?s presidency: Under Bush, the program grew by 14.7 million individuals; under Obama so far, it?s grown by 14.2 million, and, as of October, was declining.

So Bush wins on volume, and Obama wins on velocity: In just a few years, President Obama managed to expand the program by nearly as much as Bush. But Obama didn?t do it without some help from his Republican predecessor, who approved policy changes that set the stage for the program?s current growth.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 10 years ago -

Sounds like Big D needs to bone up on some facts.

Wicked --- 10 years ago -

It?s not unreasonable to criticize Obama for the expansion of the food stamps program under his watch. But Obama's Republican critics shouldn?t forget that it was a GOP president who helped make that expansion possible.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 10 years ago -

There we go................ Blame Bush

Wicked --- 10 years ago -

rather than blathering on about this Bob, why don't you come up with some solutions on how to get people off the welfare rolls. What? Did I hear you say....higher paying jobs???

SoupIsGoodFood --- 10 years ago -

You don't just GIVE someone a higher paying job. That's EARNED through hard work, education, and determination.

whatchamacallit --- 10 years ago -

Oh, so is now the problem? Not the criminals that are sucking our country dry? What about them, maybe they need to use some sort of moral compass when deciding whether or not to break the law or sign up for programs they have not contributed to?

After saying that, I realize you are right, they will keep on stealing until someone else does something about it but not sure we should put the whole solution on Bob. Why not let Obama handle it? He was elected to take care of things like this, right? Oh, yeah, can't do that, he wants them here to help him with his plan to screw up the US even more!

It is too much to ask that they behave like civilized people and NOT STEAL what isn't theirs, to begin with!?

FNHO --- 10 years ago -

Criminals?? LOL

Sucking our country dry? You're looking in the wrong place. The suckers are in Congress

Every immigrant population does this. Second and third generations earn more than the first generation.

The faux web site is heating up

Wicked --- 10 years ago -

Well soup. Here is a reality check for you. Not everyone can afford to get a higher education. Not everyone can even graduate high school when high school kids have to go our and get a job to help support the family. You don't think that person making 8.50 an hour, working full time is not working hard? Those are some of the most labor intensive jobs in America. Many of these people are determined, but when you work 1, 2, and 3 jobs to make ends meet, there is not a lot left over for education, or determination. I don't know what you do for a living but you are so out of touch with what goes on in the real world. Your ignorance is staggering. So...STFU!

AMDG --- 10 years ago -

Just a few points of clarification;

According to the posted article, we are talking here about LEGAL immigrants.

Secondly, we are talking about 42% on NEW sign ups. Think I saw the number of new sign ups in 2012 at less than 1% and a jump in 2013 to over 4%.

So doing the math those new signups are about 1.5% of the medicaid rolls.

Lastly, from the article, the source of the data from an anti-immigration group.

lies, damn lies, and statistics.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

rather than blathering on about this Bob, why don't you come up with some solutions on how to get people off the welfare rolls.

How's this for solutions

1. End the anchor bably rules
2. Enforce border security
3. Deport illegals
4. Tighten the standards for legal immigration
5. End draconian corporate taxes to spur investment and job growth
6. Curb over regulation to spur investment and job growth
7. Eliminate Obamacare to spur investment and job growth
8. Provide tax incentives to save for medical expenses. (Obamacare curtailed that)
9. Stop operating at a deficit and borrowing money
10. Elect conservatives.

The source of the statistical data is the government.

Nobody deserves anything at the expense of someone else. You get what you've earned.

Big D --- 10 years ago -

What is wrong with the current standards for legal immigration Bob?

FNHO --- 10 years ago -

Hard work and a job unless it's a union job then the whiners gripe about that.

AMDG --- 10 years ago -

The source of the statistical data is the government.

sorry Bob - you are correct.

re-phrased - the article is about a report published by "a low-immigration advocacy group" (love the beltway speak)

Was just pointing out that the story came from a report with a point of view. Doesn't make it wrong, or incorrect - but always an important fact to know.

Wicked --- 10 years ago -

Not when I have to pay the bills.

Life is not fair Bob. Pay up.

20 percent of my paycheck taxes go towards war. That is not fair to me, but I keep paying.

AMDG --- 10 years ago -

it is just about spin.

42 % of new, sounds much more dramatic than 1.5% of enrolled. The number is the same, but the story is different.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

True. This group harvested government statistics and painted it with their own spin.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

What is wrong with the current standards for legal immigration Bob?

They are unequal among peoples from different nations. How many poor laborers have you seen from India, the UK, Australia, etc?

FNHO --- 10 years ago -

The Emperor has no clothes with this thread.

The government should provide me with the clothes of my choice at your expense.

This is how I can tell who the smart people are. Not everyone can see through it. I didn't at first but I can tell a biased article when I see one.

In my opinion you and satsuma are at the top of the list for smart people that post here.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

Life is not fair Bob. Pay up.

Sooner or later you will run out of other people's money to support your nanny state. Then what will you do?

People are tired of "paying up" and are moving money offshore (I do) to avoid the ever increasing burden caused by the nanny state mentality.

FNHO --- 10 years ago -

Probably already does
