KINGWOOD, Texas -

A Kingwood grandmother said she feels like a prisoner in her own home.

Ileen Atkinson is afraid to go in her backyard and bedroom, which is only about 20 feet from the fence along the back of her property. It's the same fence that keeps getting hit by drivers.

"I don't go back there, I'm scared to death to go back there," she said.

The fence runs along the back of her property, parallel with Kings Manor Drive. She explained that drivers run the stop sign at the intersection of Kings Manor and Royal Crossing Drive and end up in her backyard.

In one instance a few years ago, a driver wound up crashing into the back of her home. It's happened a total of three times since she moved in in 2006.

Most recently it happened on Oct. 26 and there's still a huge hole in the fence.

"This guy was traveling between 55 and 60 miles per hour when he came through the other day," Atkinson said. "I'm laying in bed. Envision what that sounds like."

Atkinson suspects all of the drivers' had been drunk. All of the crashes happened on the weekend, very early in the morning.

Her homeowners association placed large boulders along the grass in an effort to stop the cars but Atkinson said it's obviously not working.

She would like to see a median put in at the intersection or more police patrolling the area. She isn't sure what the answer is but she's desperate for help.

"I'm not sleeping," she said. "You know, there's got to be a solution."

I noticed a house in Woodstream that layed out very large rocks to prevent cars from hitting their house/fence ..

Whoops didn't read that part. You would think a huge boulder would stop a car.

Yeah, I've actually seen the "boulders" and wondered what they were for. The problem with them is that they are only about a foot high, so any car is just going to drive right over them.

I used to live in Kings Manor and most of the drunks were coming and going from the apartments to the left of that intersection - on Kings Manor road.

Big rocks is what a house On Trailwood Village Dr did. It's directly in line with the Forest Cove bridge. My friend blasted right through the garage back in the late 90's!

Wow...scary stuff. We live in a curve of a street and often think about people missing the curve and ending up in our study.

I would sink several steel poles 10 or so feet down into the ground, along the fence line. That'll stop everything short of a commercial truck

it'll kill the occupants but oh well

in this case, I imagine it's a better option than the alternative for the woman-

Most of the houses on the corners of busy intersections have something to slow down drivers. If not rocks, they have a tree or an area of landscaping. She could put in a nice rock garden along the fence in her back yard. Between the two sets of rocks it should keep the cars out of her house. If it were me I'd move and let somebody else sort it out.

Had that happen once while living in Denver. As a consequence whenever we looked at a home we made sure that it couldn't and wouldn't happen again. Really can affect the resale price of a home, couldn't it?

Used to live in Kings Manor and those drivers that use it a short cut from 484 to KWD either didn't stop for stop signs and made a rolling California stop.
