Apparently the woefully misinformed 22-year-old was told by her mother that a potato placed inside the vagina was a successful method of birth control.

Her mistake was spotted when she visited a clinic complaining of abdominal pains and a nurse found roots emerging from her vagina.

Often it is. And sadly, what do you think a woman like this would do if she found herself pregnant? Drink concoctions that could kill her or cause birth defects in order to cause a spontaneous miscarriage? Have a friend or relative perform a dangerous and unsanitary abortion? Abandon the child upon birth?

Very sad and why education and safe alternatives are still missing the target.
