For not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign. The police officer who pulled me over was a little gruff at first. "Do you know why I pulled you over?"

"Yes. Stop sign," I said.

"What do you do when you come to a stop sign?"

"Well I slowed down!" I protested.

To which the officer got a little more gruff. "Does the sign say 'slow'?"

"No, Ma'am," I replied (for she was a lady cop).

The officer then said, "I'll tell you what. If you don't have any outstanding warrants on your license I'll let you go with a warning."

And so, I got off with a warning.

But she did ask for my phone number before letting me go. Is that normal? Why would they need my phone number?

Lmao

The Master --- 11 years ago -

Here I am trying hard not to be a cynical ahole, and I'm already being tested.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

She DiD NOT ask for your number!

She did. I thought it was part of police procedure though. Kinda strange if it is.

Let me add: it wasn't like she batted her eyelashes. She asked it very professionally: "Is there a phone number where you can be reached." or something like that.

Blinker --- 11 years ago -

I am kind of curious as to why someone wouldn't completely stop at a stop sign. Why didn't you stop? I always do. Isn't it a law?

Sweet Cherub --- 11 years ago -

I have never heard of them asking for your phone number. That is weird.

Quid pro quo, who cares?!?

Dorothy Parker --- 11 years ago -

Didn't you recently say you drive an old, beat up Honda?

No cop is asking for your number....lol.

PokerFace --- 11 years ago -

I still can't get over you are a guy. Lol.

Oregonian --- 11 years ago -

Here all along I thought you were a female. If a woman officer asked another woman for their phone number the first thing that comes to mind is
"It takes one to tell one'.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 11 years ago -

Try this next time you get stopped. It worked for me.

When asked if I knew why I had been stopped, I replied, "yes, you found the ones who broke into my wifes Mercedes, or you found my daughters stolen computer or you found the ones who broke into my sons house".

He said slow down and have a nice day.

Oregonian --- 11 years ago -

To use and old Johnathon Winter's line.

When you are stopped by the police and they ask you "Where is the fire?"

You answer, "In your eyes officer!"

I got a 135 dollar ticket a few years ago for doing the exact same thing. This ticket read, Ran a stop sign. I said to the cop. I did not run the stop sign. He said. When you don't make a complete stop, it is considered running a stop sign. It was ridiculous. This was not in this state BTW.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

If they do not give you a citation, they do not ask for your personal info, phone number, etc.

So if she was letting you go then she had no legit reason to ask for it. And should someone complain a cop was hitting on them, I don't think it would go over very good. Soooooo, who would take that chance to be accused of harassment, unless your George Clooney, Matthew M, Brad Pitt cute.

Post a pic, we will judge.

I bet it was what is called "A California Stop". Was it in California?

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 11 years ago -

you have to stop here, too, Oregonian- that's why it's called a "stop sign"- and it's a sin to lie, idont- it's a good thing someone's in the ice box..

idontplaynice --- 11 years ago -

What did you think I lied about? And who is in the Ice Box that would matter? And why?

If you were a cop, would you risk your career for someone who looks like this?
