I'm looking for a great tex-mex restaurant so I don't have to drive to Gringo's every time we want great enchiladas. We tried El Ranchero and couldn't believe how horrible the food was.

lisapisabobisa --- 11 years ago -

Fiesta Azteca on WLH Pkwy - very fresh and service is great!

Texasbarbiedoll --- 11 years ago -

ehh Fiesta Azteca is alright...Chachi's is pretty good.

Fresh Meat --- 11 years ago -

Since moving to the Houston area we have been befuddled by the warm salsa at so many restaurants! We like our salsa cold!!

Gigix4 --- 11 years ago -

Pappacita's is probably the best but it will cost you.
They place on 494 in Porter is not that bad but nothing I want to just rush out to get. They have a pretty good queso with a white cheese, they service with their salsa and chips.

Valentine --- 11 years ago -

i really wanted to like Chachi's (great patio, location, etc), but yucko! been let down too many times with poor service and poor quality food! El Ranchero is good for one thing: cheese enchiladas. Fiesta Azteca is ok if you plan on getting drunk on cheap margaritas. IMO, the closest good tex mex is Pappasitos.

Have you tried Lupe Tortilla or Chuys yet? Manuels and Hectors are also favorites.

Kim C --- 11 years ago -

we get El tiempo in Houston! Excellent!

*Annie* --- 11 years ago -

Kim C - Sure wish that could happen!

Fresh Meat --- 11 years ago -

Pauly, we've only been here about 7 weeks but we've tried so many places! I love Chuy's salsa but after the last time we were there, we decided to take a break.

Pappasitos lunch specials are AMAZING. Easily enough food for 2, but I'm hoping to find a new favorite closer to home.

winjer --- 11 years ago -

I love mexican food and am a bit picky. Our favorite local is Pueblo Viejo in porter.

Pueblo Viejo on Yelp

For fajitas you can't beta Lupe Tortilla. Chuy's is good too.

reh6110 --- 11 years ago -

We like Manuel's on 1960 in Atascocita.

EarthyBrie --- 11 years ago -

Los Cucos for the win!! Yummy fajitas and tortillas!

Pueblo Viejo

Went to Pueblo Viejo this past week for the first time. It was good, but not fantastic. But Mex Tex/Mex is not one of my favorite foods.

El Charro by Randalls in the back is my current favorite Mexican restaurant.

Right now, I'm stuck on their chicken enchiladas verdes topped with sour cream. You get a taco with it as well. I like their salsas too; very tasty.

Everything I've tried there has been really good.

Ditto. Love that place.

We get their fajita special to go about twice a month it's about $33 and feeds more than four people.

Ladybug --- 11 years ago -

We tried Pueblo Viejo only once. We ordered the nachos just to try them out, and the edges of the tortillas were all black/ burnt! Thought about sending them back, but the cook and the waitress decided to serve them, so they lost us as customers.

El Charro by Randalls in the back is my current favorite Mexican restaurant.

I have always had good meals there. Service is great also.

cr8zymom --- 11 years ago -

I think Manuel's has the best fajita enchiladas.

ontheroad678 --- 11 years ago -

I must be going on the wrong days at El Charro. We have been there several times and every time, my wife and I say, we are never coming back. Service is slower than Christmas and everyone had an attitude....and the food is no better than any other place in the area.

Glad there are other names on here. We will try the local places soon. Like Chuy's but really don't like driving there.

ToidBoid --- 11 years ago -

Try the Pollo Cancun at El Charro. . . my absolute fav. . . it's enough for two.

kwtraveler --- 11 years ago -

Omg el charro lol that is no better than taco bell gross same with el ranchero

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

i need cheese enchiladas!!

And a Rita

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

Oh and for the more authentic real Mexican, try Taqueria Arandas. Its a cut above anything else around here.

Gigix4 --- 11 years ago -

cheese enchiladas!!

And a Rita

HELLO! Did someone say cheese enchiladas and ritas???

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

Yes, yes they did!!!

Gigix4 --- 11 years ago -

And it certainly got my attention. Sounds so good but I would have to dress in enough layers to keep warm that I would look like the Michelin Man!

Maybe we go at just the right time because we're amazed at how quickly we get our food. (No, I'm not old enough for the early bird special).

El Charo is our default Mexican restaurant but we do visit the others too.

schaghticoke --- 11 years ago -

If you don't mind driving downtown, Cyclone Anaya's is hands down the best tex-mex around! I haven't found anything up here that's any good.

Give it a try!!!

Honestly, I've given that place 2 chances and was not impressed either time.
They do have large portions and can seat large groups but I can't say much for their food. Maybe it's just me ...

We have always had good luck at Chaci's and great service. I do love Pappasito's too, but it is pricey.

*Annie* --- 11 years ago -

Pappasito's is definitely my favorite but typically just go there on 1/2price fajita day. Chachi's has been our recent favorite but find the service to be a bit slow.
