Starting to pack up the house to move and have lots of women's clothes, bedding, pillows, etc. Is HAAM in Humble a good spot? Lots more to go.

PinehurstMom --- 11 years ago -

That is where we always take our stuff. Easy drop off for any amount, and it's local assistance. :)

Mayberry --- 11 years ago -

I donate to HAAM because what they don't use in their resale shop, they forward to other charity groups. I've volunteered there - they really go the extra mile...

JunkyBusiness --- 11 years ago -

I agree. I take all donation to HAAM - though I take it to the Kingwood branch.

Black Cat Junction located on 494 across from Lowes and next to Papa's bar.

Aah Grasshoppa --- 11 years ago -

Didn't know they had a Kingwood branch, JB. Thanks!

I take mine to FamilyTime Crisis Center. they have a resale shop in Porter but you can also drop it off at their office in Humble. They also have a shelter so some of the clothes are given directly to the women and kids at the shelter who don't have anything. I like that.

Aah Grasshoppa --- 11 years ago -

Soccer, where is it in Porter? That's closer for us.

DVaz --- 11 years ago -

Does donating to HAAM give you a tax write-off? I wouldn't donate anything but food to the Salvation Army. Most of the people I met who worked for them are complete jerks. There is always Goodwill. My brother donated a 200$ couch and they valued it @ 1200$!!!

Aah Grasshoppa --- 11 years ago -

This is primarily about getting this stuff to someone who will use it.

DVaz --- 11 years ago -

Then I agree with HAAM or Northwest Assistance Ministries (Namonline.org). They are in Spring though.

I second Family Time. What the women in the shelter don't need while at the shelter they sell in their shop, with that money going directly to benefit the shelter, then when the women are getting on their feet with their kids they let them get items from the shop for free to start their household. Great organization and great people.

Aah Grasshoppa --- 11 years ago -

Thanks. Going to Family Time tomorrow.

TinktheSprite --- 11 years ago -

Family Time is one of those organizations where your items go directly to those in need. When families are ready to start on their own, they get to go through the Family Time Thrift Store and take as a gift things that will get them back on their feet. I love what Family Time does for our community!
