Are there any OTC/herbal meds work best for a bladder infection? Doc can't get me in until Wednesday and they can't call me in an RX as I haven't been in in over a year. Ugh!

TIA!

Dr Aborto --- 11 years ago -

Damn Obamacare! Can't you go to urgent care?

FabFive --- 11 years ago -

Cranberry juice and capsules. Also, lots and lots of water.

Snake Plissken --- 11 years ago -

Cranberry juice. Not cranberry juice cocktail but 100% cranberry juice. Most grocery stores have it and My Fit Foods always has it.

Good luck!

I saw on Preppers once (which means this'll sound crazy) but pet stores sell "fish antibiotics" that are generic Cipro, amoxicillin, erythromycin, etc.

I have no experience with this but you'd be surprised if you google "fish antibiotics".

Cystex or AZO. lots of water. And cranberry juice

Dorothy Parker --- 11 years ago -

Get Azo...that will help with the pain.

Sorry you have a bladder infection! They're the worst! :(

2ndStarToTheRight --- 11 years ago -

If you take AZO though they can't do a urine dip when you go in, just so ya know. Some doctors will prescribe based on symptoms, some won't. Could you try a Take care clinic in Walgreens or a Redi clinic place in the morning?

sheddy --- 11 years ago -

I have gone to Rediclinic. They couldn't do the test if you had taken the otc medicine. That was a couple of years ago, so it may have changed.

Get Lakewood Pure Cranberry. It is as sour as a lemon, but it works great! Also, boil some thinly sliced ginger root in water to make a tea, and drink it. Both really help.

Daisy --- 11 years ago -

If you actually have a UTI, it is a bad idea to wait until Wed to start antibiotics. There are no OTC that "treat" bladder infections -- other than maybe minimizing the discomfort?!
The Redi Clinics (sp?) in HEB are walk in. Maybe try that? We've had a good experience with the one in the KW HEB.

JenJen --- 11 years ago -

I agree with Daisy about the Redi Clinic at HEB.

i agree!

Jpgirl --- 11 years ago -

Yeah don't wait. I get UTIs and don't even know I have them UNTIL they're full blown kidney infections- not good on the old kidneys. I now take cranberry capsules and have not had an UTI in over a year
