Followed me home tonight, Sunday, Feb. 14th at 11:00 pm in Elm Grove. Big, sweet, energetic boy. Can't keep, will have to go to SPCA tomorrow if owner isn't found. Please call 281-216-5363 or email: ldabbs1156@gmail.com or lorrie.dabbs@humble.k12.tx.us

Can you put up signs and at least give him a day or two??? Hate for his owners to miss out and him maybe getting put down...

*Annie* --- 15 years ago -

Please take him to a vet to be checked for a microchip. If you have no options for keeping him, perhaps the vets office could do a temporary boarding for you.

karma --- 15 years ago -

Is he well groomed? Does he look like someone would be missing him? At the very least please have him scanned for a chip as someone said. If you're going to pick up loose dogs it's courteous to as least hold on to them for a couple weeks to give an owner a chance. If someone picked up my dog and was going to dump her at the pound the next day I would come unglued. This could be a very loved and missed family member.

FishinKim --- 15 years ago -

Oh, I hope you'll give it a few days or at least find someone who will help him find his home =(

Scottie's Hottie --- 15 years ago -

While it might be a very loved family member that doesn't mean everyone has the option of holding a found animal for a couple of weeks to see if the owner is found. While shelters are not ideal neither is leaving an animal to fend for itself in the cold and where the risk of getting hit is very high. If you do have to take the dog to the SPCA you could still put up signs to allow the owner to contact you. At least then you could tell them where their dog is for them to claim.

Lorrie --- 15 years ago -

I did not pick up this stray, he followed me home from walking my dogs. I tried to get him make him go back home. Ten minutes later he was crying at my front door. I made a warm comfortable bed in my garage, as I have two dogs of my own one of which does not get along with other dogs. I was up until 2:00am listening to this dog cry while searching websites looking for people who lost their dog. I have posted on this site, Kingwood.com, Kingwoodgaragesales.com and Craig's list. I was 3 hours late getting to my office this morning calling vets etc. Karma I do not need your lecture on stray dog etiquette, however, if you would like to foster this dog, by all means let me know and I will bring him to you. While taking a dog to a shelter is certainly not my preference, at least I know the dog will not be hit by a car, has food and is out of the freezing temperatures. If I lost my dogs I would be checking every shelter in town to find them. Thank you to the rest of you for your ideas and to Scottie's Hottie for realizing that while many of us care, not all of us have the resources to care for an additional animial for an extended time.

*Annie* --- 15 years ago -

Have you tried kingwoodyardsales or fidofinder? Best of luck finding his owner.

Polly Ester --- 15 years ago -

The fact that he has a blue plaid collar makes it sound like he is someone's pet. There was thunder last night and I know that makes some dogs bolt. I wish I had a garage or someplace safe for him to stay to give his owner time to find him..but I am in an apt. Did you put signs up in the neighborhood and along Northpark? How long do shelters keep animals before they put them down? I really think someone is probably looking for this dog.

Scottie's Hottie --- 15 years ago -

It is wonderful what lengths that some people go through to help find the homes of animals they have found. I still firmly believe that it is the responsibility of those who lost their pet to search for their pet. They should be the ones with ads on every local website, calling vets offices, putting out fliers, etc. When we lost our cat I left no stone unturned trying to find him. Thank you for allowing him in to your home even though you cannot keep him.

justthinkin --- 15 years ago -

Thank you Lorrie for your response. I was about to come unglued with telling you to keep him for two weeks. There's no way I would be able to do that. IMHO you gave him a chance and life will have to move on. We can only do what we can do but to have others make it sound like you are a dog hater, or even worse is rude at the very least.

justthinkin --- 15 years ago -

If someone picked up my dog and was going to dump her at the pound the next day I would come unglued Oh I guess it would be best to leave it outside in frigid temps then!

Lorrie --- 15 years ago -

He will be safe and sound tonight, will try to find someone to foster him tomorrow. Not sure what will happen after that.

Meme2my5 --- 15 years ago -

Can you post his pic here or give his color? About how old do you think he is? This might help to find his owners.

pharlap --- 15 years ago -

Lorrie, if I didn't already have 4 dogs...I would definitely take him in..... I hope his owners call for him! Did you put found dog signs out? I have done that before when I found a dog..... I know it is asking a lot of you to do that, but sometimes that helps too......

Lorrie --- 15 years ago -

Signs are out, tried to get pic but couldn't get him to stay still long enough. He is full grown, but a younger adult. He is red like a golden, but hair is length and texture of a lab. His collar is a green and blue plaid.

ts_the1 --- 15 years ago -

I have posted this on a Houston Dog Board forum that I am associated with in case someone in our dog community has been alerted of a lost dog. If it's not inconvenient, please take him to the nearest vet and have him scanned. There is not charge to do this and perhaps he is microchipped. Thank you for caring. I was put in the same position with the 2 dogs that I found running down 59 on Sunday.

Lorrie --- 15 years ago -

Butler's family has been home, just picked him up! Thanks to all!

karma --- 15 years ago -

Lorrie, I would gladly foster if I could but I'm full so I don't pick up strays. A purebred golden retriever followed me home once and sat on our porch when I lived at home years and years ago, I took him in and found the owners, they didn't want him so we kept him. Woulda hated seeing that dog get euth'd right off the truck. He was a great dog. Justthinkin, she's a husky and they can survive in -40 temperatures, thanks :)

ts_the1 --- 15 years ago -

That is awesome and a happy ending, Lorrie~~~again, thanks for caring and taking the time that you did for him!

Scottie's Hottie --- 15 years ago -

That is great news, Lorrie!! Thanks for the update!!

chilihead --- 15 years ago -

I am amazed at how many expensive dogs we find! Then NOBODY claims them! Just got my new boxer that way a month ago. I often wonder how far the dogs travel when they get out? Also, this is a long weekend so many people are out of town. They may not know their dog is lost!

ts_the1 --- 15 years ago -

Oh, and by the way, regardless of what anyone else tells you, "finding" this dog was not your fault. So many of us are put in this position by no fault of our own or the fault of the voiceless animals that we encounter but at the hands of other people's neglect and mistakes. Sometimes unintentional, but most times irresponsible~~~

karma --- 15 years ago -

Chilihead, purebreds get dumped just as often as mutts do! In some cases even more because too often people buy a purebred solely because of how they look and then realize they're in way over their head with a breed they know nothing about or how to care for properly. 1 in 5 shelter dogs are purebred.

Polly Ester --- 15 years ago -

Butler's family has been home, just picked him up! Thanks to all! Yippee!! Thanks for all your efforts to reunite this family and their pet. I hope they will make sure he is kept safe and sound at home from now on.

Lorrie --- 15 years ago -

Once again, thanks to all of you that REALLY know and understand that the most important thing is that Butler and his family were reunited. Karma ~ apparently you didn't read the part that said "I DID'T PICK UP THIS STRAY!" as you remind us all that you would never do. Thanks again for all of your unsolicited and unwarrented wisdom.

Lorrie --- 15 years ago -

I'm out

Pollys Crackers --- 15 years ago -

karma, you're a real piece of work. It's comments like yours to Lorrie and to me that make KU sometimes a real unpleasant place. Then it's refreshing to find people like Lorrie that did the best she could to help and ended up with a great ending to what could have been a sad story.

JenS --- 15 years ago -

I believe I have this same dog - found him in the back of Sherwood Trails last night. Lorrie, would you please pm me? He has the blue/green plaid collar...same description...seems to know "Butler"...help!!
