where Dubois was....anybody know anything?

And where did Burger King go?

andreweggplant --- 10 years ago -

I heard that there was a new place going in where Cafe DuBois was. Is it open? Burger King is gone? Not many BK's left these days. Maybe they are pulling a rebuild like Taco Bell.

RedMulch --- 10 years ago -

The Park Café did look open. The outside tables looked ready to go. Burger King looks like it is going through a remodel. Or maybe just boarding up for hurricane season.

tonyaust --- 10 years ago -

Park Café will open on Tuesday 21st
Menu shld be on website tonight. Http:www.parkcafekingwood.com

Texvette --- 10 years ago -

Hope there are new owners who bring a fresh, unique approach. The immediate past owners let things go downhill - and did a very poor job of handling and communicating the closure of Cafe du Bois.

andreweggplant --- 10 years ago -

Is it not the same owners with a new name and "concept"?

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 10 years ago -

I checked it out. The left hand side of the menu is cut off so you can only read half of it. The right side was whole and it looked interesting. Burgers-but other interesting more upscale dishes as well.

Good luck to them!

RedMulch --- 10 years ago -

nice menu. Liquor license?

tonyaust --- 10 years ago -

No liquor license to start. Bring your own Application is being processed.

tonyaust --- 10 years ago -

New owner - same chef, some of the same service staff and Tony will be managing.

JHMO --- 10 years ago -

Tony - any chance of all the Café Du Bois gift certificates I bought being replaced with Park Café certificates? I had purchased $140 worth that were NOT expired.

ukchristine --- 10 years ago -

That's an awkward question for a NEW owner of a business to answer. What if there are thousands of certs out there. I don't think I'd expect old certs to have any value. I think many of us would like to see this "new" restaurant to succeed and starting with liabilities might not help. OTOH perhaps it will do what those kind of discounts are intended to do: bring in customers. I don't know enough about that to know what's best for everybody.

JHMO --- 10 years ago -

Tony Austin is not a "new" owner. He is the previous owner of Café Du Bois and now the "general manager" of the same location (newly named), with the same chef and (although not all of them) the same menu items.

JHMO --- 10 years ago -

I know due to previous posts I am not the only previous (AND LOYAL) customer who was highly disappointed in the sudden closing of the restaurant when they literally weeks before had run a Restaurant.com special as well as a Groupon special. I have a hard time believing a restaurant made a split decision in just days time to indefinitely shut their doors. It seems the wool was pulled over our eyes a bit. Hey, here buy all these gift certificates, we're giving you a great deal! (I paid around $140 for $225 worth of certificates) and then say shortly afterward, ohhh we're closing our doors, sorry about those gift certificates!

I didn't ask for the $225 worth of food nor my $140 to be refunded. I asked for the possibility of an exchange for just $140 worth of dining (not the advertised amount of $225).

I'm sorry but I do not think I am being unreasonable nor awkward. Tony is going to have a hard time squandering up business from those who know he owned Café Du Bois, when literally hundreds of people were screwed, if he doesn't offer a suggestion to make it right.

mutton --- 10 years ago -

Agree JHMO!

ATXmom --- 10 years ago -

JHMO, add an Amazon Local offer to those other specials. Amazon refunded the money; don't know about the others. Still frustrating.

tonyaust --- 10 years ago -

Just FYI I left the restaurant in August last year. There is a new owner who has decided to keep many of the old favorite dishes but will be evolving the menu with many more international dishes and some healthy options.

JHMO --- 10 years ago -

I'm assuming the evasive response to the question at hand has a hidden answer, NO.

Good luck trying to get the loyal clientele back. I won't be returning. I have a hard time knowing I was okay to pay $70 for Chateaubriand however, my business is not good enough to make right by the free money I gave the company.

JHMO --- 10 years ago -

I forgot all about the Amazon deal they ran because I didn't use it, I had already purchased from Restaurant.com (because of the great deal) and Groupon (to support the obviously struggling business). No, I wasn't refunded for either. I'm glad some of you were able to get back your money for your certificates. I don't even want my money back. I want Chateaubriand ;)

Lisam --- 10 years ago -

Tony-I guess we are all wondering what makes this time around better than the last? You obviously saw problems when you left in August and now are back as manager with the new owner, can you please give us some insight as to how this time it will be different? Like others, I have been a loyal customer of Café Du Bois and was offended by the previous owners handling of the closing...very unprofessional. What makes this new owner qualified to run the business successfully? thanks....

JHMO --- 10 years ago -

Tony - My question:

Okay, you were the owner until August 2014. New owners took over then? Are these the same new owners that own it now? Or is this now the 3rd set of owners in 8 months time?

Texvette --- 10 years ago -

Great questions JHMO and Lisam. I would really like to see Park Cafe succeed.

Just stuck --- 10 years ago -

I received this in my inbox last week. I'm not sure where any of you bought yours but I would be talking to the new management when they become available. I guess today is the day, it's the 21st.

Hey there,

^^^^^What site was that????

Just stuck --- 10 years ago -

Restaurant.com Some must have been cutoff when I posted it here.

JHMO --- 10 years ago -

OMG. I need to go check now! Yay!

JHMO --- 10 years ago -

Yup, I can exchange them! Just Stuck, you're so AWESOME! That's $100 worth taken care of. Sweet.

JHMO --- 10 years ago -

They're saying: We cannot exchange at this time, try again later. Ugh.

JHMO --- 10 years ago -

Got it. I left $50 as credit in my account and redeemed the other $50 for Nicole's Italian Restaurant in Porter.

There are.
They are.
And yes, she most certainly did.

It is not the same owners.
It IS a new name.
It IS pretty much the same concept as the previous restaurant.

JHMO - you were unfortunately a victim of the previous owner's desperate attempt to keep the doors open. In the end, it seems like she was trying anything and everything to "squander up" business herself.

Tony was long gone from Cafe du Bois when the coupon fiasco was going on.

Webster --- 10 years ago -

Okay, you were the owner until August 2014. New owners took over then? Are these the same new owners that own it now? Or is this now the 3rd set of owners in 8 months time??

No - he wasn't.
No. No new owner when he left. Same "new" owner.

Original owner: William Trout
Then he basically turned it over last summer to someone else who didn't know anything about running a restaurant. She then ran off Tony and the restaurant went downhill quickly after that.

If you have issues with Cafe du Bois - their most assuredly with the most recent previous owner - not Tony.

Prepare to be served and treated the way a valued customer expects to be at Park Cafe - because Tony is back!

Texvette --- 10 years ago -

Any reports since Park Cafe opened ?

a3693711uu --- 10 years ago -

I was supposed to attend a function there next week. When reservations were made a week ago they were very nice - saying we could bring our own wine for a corkage fee, as they were waiting on the liquor license - but we were told today it has now closed until further notice :(

TruBluTexan --- 10 years ago -

That was fast, even for Kingwood.

*Annie* --- 10 years ago -

Hmmm.... We ate there just last week. We learned that they were still looking for key kitchen staff. Perhaps more time is needed to get everyone in place and properly trained.

Their new cod was good.

mutton --- 10 years ago -

What? gone again?

*LOL* --- 10 years ago -

but we were told today it has now closed until further notice :(

Well, that's not too cool. I checked their facebook and there wasn't an update explaining why they aren't open either, which is not a good move on their part. Sort of makes you wonder.

Texvette --- 10 years ago -

It`s a shame they are not trying to br more open and forthright about their status. I would like to see them succeed. However, they are doing very little on the "public relations" front.
