TinktheSprite --- 10 years ago -

We are! We are! For the first time in 4-5 years, we are!!

a889324uu --- 10 years ago -

Not us. We owe five figures. I haz the sadz.

Gigix4 --- 10 years ago -

Done filed and the refund is my bank account. It was just in time to help pay for the new washer and dryer I had to buy.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 10 years ago -

What's a refund?

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 10 years ago -

My dad used to say "if you didn't make money, you wouldn't owe taxes- " somehow it's hard to feel comforted when you're writing that check-

TinktheSprite --- 10 years ago -

There is a fine balance between owing taxes and getting a refund. I wish I could just break even or come close, have more money with each pay check but not give any to the Gov't to spend and use until they give it back. I have gone from owing money now to getting some back. I am not balanced.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 10 years ago -

I know- I never have enough write offs-

SleightOfHand --- 10 years ago -

I'm paying

TinktheSprite --- 10 years ago -

At least when you pay the Gov't doesn't get your money to play with. But it sucks when you have to shell it out.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

If you are getting a refund or are paying over and above a nominal amount then you are not doing very good tax planning.

reh6110 --- 10 years ago -

I got a nice refund the last three years but it was due to me being in grad school. Most years I get less than $1000 back and have never had to pay.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 10 years ago -

Emp, the gov. Doesn't like tax planning- they especially don't like family trusts- if you have one in your will, expect your heirs to have problems-

CavemanBarney --- 10 years ago -

Got mine. Or I should say, we got Betty's.

RedMulch --- 10 years ago -

Iza payin $1800. Not doing it til Monday. I should do better next year.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

I was told a trust was the best way to pass on money and securities without a tax burden to the recipients above normal income tax.

TinktheSprite --- 10 years ago -

Yes, I need to plan better. We are still getting used to DH on disability, the income changes and the allowances they give us. I will get it right next year.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 10 years ago -

It is the bast way- they just don't like them, and they usually win-

jennycrocker --- 10 years ago -

Haha! NO!!

SleightOfHand --- 10 years ago -

I don't mind the 1500 I owe. A sizable amount of my income came from untaxed extra jobs. You have to keep a mileage log and keep all receipts that are work related. The tax service I use has a smart phone app where you photograph your recipts and the images are stored for use at tax time, easy.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 10 years ago -

Absolutely keep complete records, if you itemize- I throw nothing out- Family Trusts are for inheritance- my dad paid a fortune to an attorney to set it up, but e IRS knows it's for tax savings, so they challenge them- they got a big chunk after fighting with them for over a year- so did the lawyer and the accountant- everyone but the heirs-

XpressUrself --- 10 years ago -

We are blessed and or lucky or both cause we have never owed. We got a little over 2k this year. Wahoo!

Polly Ester --- 10 years ago -

My hand to God, on my life I will not be Back. I've quit. See ya fools! :-)

Have you gone off your meds again?

Polly Ester --- 10 years ago -

Have you gone off your meds again?

Just an inside joke with an old familiar poster. I'm so glad she came back.

aragon --- 10 years ago -

Had to write a check. I usually do a better job of withholding but deductions changed a bit this year.

It wasn't particularly fun this time around especially. Got hit with identity theft hard and am having to file extra paperwork with the IRS, SS admin, FTC and so forth.

Pretty stupid that I had to prove who I was to them since I was paying them instead of the fraudster trying to get money from them.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 10 years ago -

Polly, not so much inside- lol! We all know whose MO is coming out!

RedMulch --- 10 years ago -

I lie and cheat as much as I know how and I still pay. I must be the ultimate tax dumbass. (lol/jk)

Work in Progress --- 10 years ago -

Flat tax. Flat tax and this whole game is moot. Flat tax and April is just another month.

mutton --- 10 years ago -

Ok, now I get it, lol. Long week...

mutton --- 10 years ago -

And I wrote such a huge freaking check this week that me hand still cramped up a bit...

PokerFace --- 10 years ago -

We joined the five figure club this year. Woohoo! Ouch.

You can call me Michelle --- 10 years ago -

WIP a flat tax would be a dream come true!!!

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 10 years ago -

Michelle, from your lips to God's ear.

Red Heifer --- 10 years ago -

A flat tax is not so simple. Rates would rise for a lot of people--it won't be as low as you think. No more mortgage deductions means fewer housing starts and sales because fewer people--especially first-time buyers--will be able to afford to buy. No more charitable deductions will hurt churches and other charities. Good idea?

I would pay less, but I'm not so sure its a good idea for the country.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 10 years ago -

There's that, too....

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

If the paltry effect of a mortgage deduction makes the difference beyween owning a home or not, you are already in poor financial condition. Its the difference between paying money to a mortgage company or the government.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

No to a flat tax

Yes to a national sales tax.

RedMulch --- 10 years ago -

National Sales Tax. Now there is an idea. That is why they call you Emperor.

Oh wait, no, that is my fault.

RedMulch --- 10 years ago -

We joined the five figure club this year. Woohoo! Ouch.

Sure you don't mean 6 figure club? 5 figure could be just 10K

Dorothy Parker --- 10 years ago -

Maybe they meant the amount they had to pay out?
